Effects of stress on a person’s health In some instances in our life we experience stress. Stress can have both a positive or negative impact in a person’s life. On the positive side, stress can be the force that drives a person to perform well during an interview or a piano recital. However, from another perspective, stress can be a negative force that people do not desire. For example, if a person is waiting in traffic for a long time, then, the resulting stress will have negative impact on their mood and their day can be spoilt. If a person’s stress is left untreated for a certain amount of time, then there is a high chance that it can become chronic. Chronic stress results in mental and physical negative outcomes like being fatigued, getting irritated easily for no apparent reason and poor concentration. Chronic stress was found to make existing problems worse. For example, it can cause headaches due to negative thoughts. Another effect of chronic stress is that it can cause physiological diseases like high blood pressure. Moreover, it can lead to bad health habits like smoking and drinking. Adults at the age of 21 can use smoking and drinking as a way of coping with stress. When a person is depressed and has minimal social interactions for a prolonged amount of time, he or she can have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular complications. The definition of stress offered is more similar and can be easily understood by the typical person. The universal definition of “stress,” which has been uniformly described from a wide range of opinions, from medical practitioners to academics, has been used as a means of streamlining the care offered by said professionals in efforts to combat and counteract stress. The articles given have no ethnic bias and can be used by various cultural groups. In relation to the topic, my opinion on it, is that different people have varied ways of dealing with stress. I believe that a person’s personality can make different stressful situations have either a negative or a positive outcome. Therefore, it can be said that one situation might have a negative outcome on one person, while the same situation will have a positive outcome on another person (Bradbury, 2013). Simultaneously, there is only one way to positively decrease the damaging physiological impact of stress like cardiovascular risk. This involves including one’s self in a little recreational activities, such as dance classes and cycling. Although these activities need a lot of time and patience, they are supposed to be very enjoyable. (Denollet, Schiffer & Spek, 2010).
