I will be talking about Ebenezer Scrooge and how he changed drastically throughout the story of the Christmas Carol. During one of the busiest times of the year Scrooge is challenged to visit his past, present, and future. Scrooge is a very grumpy, miserable man who is visited by the three spirits. He learns to be thankful and understand the meaning of Christmas. The story, A Christmas Carol, was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. It was a big hit and a bestseller, selling six thousand copies and continuing to grow. A Christmas Carol was apart of everyone's to do list and was a ritual for everyone during Christmas time by watching the plays, movie, or book. I will be explaining the three spirits in this novel, and how they affected Ebenezer Scrooge's life. I will first explain the first spirit, the spirit of the Past who makes Scrooge regret his behavior. Then I will be discussing the second spirit, spirit of Present who comes to haunt Mr. Scrooge in order to prompt him to
Scrooge is the spirit of the Present. This spirit teaches Scrooge about poverty and how you don’t need to be rich to be happy. The spirit of Present showed Mr.Scrooge the Cratchit family and their problems with money, but Scrooge couldn’t even tell that they had that problem because they seemed to be happy all the time. Mr.Scrooge watched as their family gathered around the dinner table grateful for the food they had, and their family together safely. Scrooge noticed Tiny Tim's illness and felt extremely awful. The Cratchit family and Tim don’t let that bother them and are just grateful for them all being together for Christmas. The Cratchit family finished their prayers, and after Tiny Tim said “God bless us, everyone.” Mr.Cratchit urges his wife to make a toast to Mr.Scrooge but she denies to because she believes he’s an awful person.
