The early colonial time period spans about 120 years, filled with incredibly significant ideas that drove the United States to its current position, it all stemmed from the first people and their aspirations for a new way of living which drove leaders to create those aspirations into reality. Jamestown was established by the English in 1607 and became the first stable settlement in the US. It was chartered by King James I (and named after him) by ordering people to sail into the Chesapeake and settle, find gold, and find a body of water that led to the orient.
