Over the past few years, many success stories have emerged as a result of assistive technology. ESight proves to help thousands of visually impaired individuals “see clearly” for the first time. From seeing a mother for the first time, to watching a favorite sports team or meeting the Easter bunny, eSight has changed the lives of thousands of people ranging from ages four to 101 years old. This includes Gary Foster, who lost all central vision in both of his eyes as a result of macular degeneration. He could not identify a peanut on a table, much less a person’s facial expression or words on a page, but with eSight, his vision was transformed. “When he put [the eSight eyewear] on, he realized that his vision drastically improved, so much so that he could see faces and read books.” So many people just like Gary Foster can benefit from this technology. For instance, during a cold winter in Florence, Antonio remembers a volunteer helping him when his central heating was not operating properly. The volunteer talked him through the task, which allowed Antonio to fix his central heating. He describes his experience as “extremely positive,” although he wishes that he could have helped the volunteers as much as they helped him. This innovation would not be successful without the aid of willing volunteers. Sasha, who lives in Ukraine, is one of the many volunteers that take the time to help people with vision loss. Although it may seem like a burden to some people, Sasha views her assistance as a benefit for her as well as the person she is helping. Not only does she feel happy to help someone in need, but her perspective has broadened with usability and inclusion issues, especially in her professional life as a marketer in an e-commerce
