A dystopian fiction is often used to express social commentary on the current issues in the world. It focuses on the negative aspects of life and provide different point of views to the audience. Although dystopian fiction is seen as a form of entertainment in the world, this form of genre brings an awareness to the world about the current issues that are happening. Dystopian fiction provide warning that worst evens have the possibilities of happening. It is usually in the form of worst case scenarios. Although it is written in an exaggerated form, the similarities between the issues in dystopian fictions and modern society are evident. Since dystopian novels often are inspired by real issues and events in the present day, readers find it easier to relate, thus finding it entertaining. Along with the entertainment that dystopian novels provide, we must not forget that dystopian novels serve other purpose too. Dystopian novels can open up new perspective in life. A dystopian novel often has a theme that the story focuses on. The possible themes in a dystopian fiction are human misery, diseases, technology, and death. The current issue that I am responding to is human trafficking.
Human trafficking is a process of people abduction. Human trafficking is a development issue. I am using my story “The Decline” to respond the social issue of human trafficking. The general idea of my story is about how economic collapse pushed people’s liberal views to the limit. My story begins in the year of 2154 and the economy has just fallen into another depression. ...me. People are also led to believe what the government is issuing. Another dystopian convention that the story have is a protagonist that questions the society and later seeks change in humanity.
The purpose of dystopian fiction is to provide the worst case scenarios and the possible effects of the society. It can be seen as a warning to inspire change in the human immoral behaviors. I used the topic of human trafficking as a possible result of poverty. The purpose of the story is to show how the government has the power to control everything by using the people’s vulnerability. In the story, people began to think that prostitution and human trafficking is acceptable since they are providing income to the families. The economic collapse impaired their judgment and their moral values. People’s behaviors can be easily altered by putting them in a difficult situations.
