My invertebrate research paper is about Dumbo octopus, also called Grimpoteuthis. Dumbo octopuses are type of mollusks. In the category of mollusks it is divided into smaller groups, and they are part of the cephalopods. These octopuses got their name from Disney’s film Dumbo. This is because of their fin that extends from the mantle above each eye. Dumbo octopuses are deep sea animals that live on the ocean floor at extreme depths of 3000 to 4000 meters, and because of that they have the ability to live in very cold water and in the complete absence of sunlight. These type of octopuses are not only the deepest dwelling octopuses in the sea, but also the oldest living. The arms are connected together with webbings between them. The arms are used to help the Dumbos move in direction, and they allow these animals to crawl along the seafloor to capture their prey, lay eggs, and investigate. However, the fastest way of swimming is by propelling water through their funnel. This type of moving is used when escaping from predators. Dumbo octopuses have a semi-transparent body with an internal mantle, which gives them the shape that they have. Dumbo octopuses have three hearts, one to pump blood through their body and two branchial hearts that pump blood to the gills for getting oxygen. They have a big digestive gland, probably because it swallows it prey whole. Their preys include snails, worms, bivalves, and different types of crustaceans. These octopuses capture their food by wrapping their tentacles around it and strangling
