The age of 18 is a wonderful time in young woman’s or man’s life. There are many privileges that surround this age such as buying cigarettes, voting and being recognized as an adult. Another association with turning 18 is graduating from high school and accepting the task of taking on the world head first. Most teenagers leave their childhood home and go to college for more schooling. The average American way, but what about athletes who are challenged with taking on two huge steps, competing in the classroom and the athletic course. By considering the money made by universities off of college athletes and the stress the student athletes are put under, we can see the effort put in by the youngsters are undervalued, which most people don’t see; …show more content…

Now picture an athlete who incorporates perfecting their craft from the crack of dawn into the darkness of night with school work, the window for “me time” is certainly smaller than the average student. The average off season to off season football player has his schedule aligned similar to this one: • Football Players Orientation week: 14 hours of football related activity • Time prior to season: 50-60 hours weekly • Season and classes: 40-50 ours weekly (37 hour stretch for road games including travel) • After season weight train: 12-15 hours weekly • Preparing for spring practice: 15-20 hours weekly • Spring/Summer practicing: 20-25 hours weekly. During the preseason and regular season the athlete is completely drained, not even considering star or starting athletes who usually will play majority of the game against an opponent of equal talent.
