The double jeopardy clause gives a person tried for a crime the protection of not being tried for the same crime twice. This is the premise behind the 1999 movie, Double Jeopardy, where the main actress, Ashley Judd, finds herself in a position to reap the benefits of this clause. Her husband had orchestrated his own death in order to flee with a family friend and collect $2 million dollars in life insurance that would now be given as a trust to her son. After receiving parole, she intended to locate her husband and exact revenge by killing him with the idea that she could get away with it due to the double jeopardy clause and having already been tried and convicted of the same murder.
