400 Blows: Antoine Doniel's Misunderstood Journey

650 Words2 Pages

In the movie 400 Blows, a 1959 French drama film, centers on a boy named Antoine Doniel, whom could have been misunderstood by his parents or possibly just a bad kid, it remains unclear. While Doniel was not living in the best conditions he was well cared for (basic human needs), but his parents were not often home and seemed to not really care about him until something very serious happened. Doniel was getting very bad grades in class and in trouble there for that matter, but his parents seemed to not care one bit. Doniel is often disciplined by his parents, which seemingly does no good, because he refuses to change his ways, and one could say his behavior becomes increasingly worse throughout the film. Furthermore, Doniel often runs away The police hold the boy in a holding cell for some time, and eventually, send him to our equivalent of a juvenile hall. Doniels mother requests that he be put in a center near the ocean because he had always wanted to visit there, but once the boy arrives his party is over and he is very sternly disciplined for his actions about a meal while there. Moreover, the bad behavior is not over yet after some time the kids are all playing soccer and Doniel seizes this opportunity to escape under a broken chain link fence. Doniel runs for what seems to be forever, before finally coming to an ocean, he had finally made it where he had always wanted to go, but what will come of Doniel? The movie doesn't tell us, it ends, but not before zooming in very close and slowly on the boys Additionally, I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves classic movies, because this classic french drama film was the first time a director had ever done this type (especially with the zooming in on the face). Furthermore, for people who say they had old movies and reading subtitles I would tell them to give this one a go, it might change their minds about these types of movies, and inspire them to watch more classic wonders such as this
