POTUS Possible intro P for subtopic 1: Now there is a lot of government and politics, way more than just Donald Trump and him being so great or so evil. I don’t want to talk about this matter because I feel it is not important to tell others. Saying that he’s good or bad would make this paragraph a persuasive one instead of an informative. We all have astonishing rights which allow us to do things like having free will, being respected, and being able to run for President (well, if you’ve been an American Citizen for more than 14 years and over 30 years old, us Canadians can’t do that, but we can run for Prime Minister!). So let’s talk about the rights that the president has, other than the ones he had as an American Citizen. So first up, the POTUS (President Of The United States) has the right to completely demolish entire cities. Being the POTUS, the POTUS has the right to bomb other countries, cities, or even towns. This right is given to the POTUS because of being the Commander-In-Chief, which has the right in war, to bomb other areas that America is at war with. Just because he/she’s the president doesn’t mean they can just ignore the entire motto. That motto applies to everyone, even you, whether you like it or not. The President has many jobs that are part of his/job as president. For example, have you ever wondered how a law is made? Well the House of Representatives and Senate must have a conference and after that they both approve of it, it goes to the president and he signs it. Then it becomes a law. One of the other of the POTUS’s job is to (as Chief Diplomat) entertain Chinese Diplomats when coming to the Whitehouse. The POTUS also has to go to London and have meetings with British Leaders about certain matters, or just to meet them. With this job the POTUS must also write letters to the leaders of Russia about certain matters. As Commander-In-Chief, the POTUS must decide to bomb cities (in war), and inspect the navy yard. The most important role of being the president is being the Commander of Chief. Commander in Chief services are to defend the country during any war. All of the military leaders report to and take orders from the Commander. The president is the commander for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard and sometimes other countries. His orders can’t be disobeyed by anyone in the military. Commander in Chief can decide when troops are deployed in a disaster. As chief of state, the president presides over honors of war heroes, and attends funerals of world leaders. Commander In Chief is responsible for keeping the country safe.
The role of the president has changed throughout the Unites States history from what it use to be. When the Constitution was formed by the founding fathers there was a qualifications for the presidency like the qualification age is 35 and the president has to be a United States citizen who was born in the US. The president was not elected directly by the people but only by the House of Representatives who were elected by qualified people. The president was actually chosen by the Electoral College because the people were not trusted so the Electoral College was created as a safeguard against the people’s vote. The president was powerful and had different categories of powers. He was the Commander in Chief, Joint Chief Legislator, and Chief Diplomat. The framers of the Constitution wanted a limited government and one that couldn’t oppress the people. They were especially afraid of a strong executive so they purposely tried to not give the president a lot of power. But as time goes on the power of the President is expanded beyond what the founding fathers imagined.
Even with the very few examples I’ve included, it’s easy to note that every president is given the same powers and it’s up to them if they want to use them or not. Some may use some while other presidents favor others. Powers of the presidents don’t always change and have been used since the Constitution was drawn up. Continuing on from now, each president will continue to use these powers to further keep up with the order amongst the country. The United States depends on the president and needs it in order for its well-being. The country wouldn’t be what it is today without the president of the United States of America.
