Watching pornography is popular all around the world; from children to adults both man and female, however little is known about the psychological and relational affects it can have on both men and women. Pornography refers to the explicit description or exhibition of sexual subjects or activity in literature, painting, pictures, books, films, etc., in a manner intended to stimulate sexual excitement rather than aesthetic feelings (Syzmanski & Stewart-Richardson, 2014) In order to examine the affects that pornography has on males I will explore and examine the movie Don Jon and provide background information, foundations of psychology, and application. According to a study by Syzmanski and Stewart-Richardson (2014), pornography use and problematic pornography use were related to greater gender role conflict, more avoidant and anxious and anxious attachment styles, poorer relationship quality and less sexual satisfaction. There are many reasons why people tend to watch pornography but one thing is for sure, pornography use affects men’s gender role conflict. Gender role conflict is defined as a psychological state in which socialized gender roles have negative consequences on others and the self and occurs when restrictive and sexist gender roles result in personal rigidness, devaluation, or even violation of the self or others (Syzmanski & Stewart-Richardson, 2014). Men who watch pornography tend to have higher gender role conflicts, and tend to view women as sexual objects like if the were toys wanting to use them a unappropriate way because pornography objectifies and degrades women. According to O’Neil gender role conflict has been found to be related to negative and stereotypical thinking about women, sexual entitlement, hostility towards women, acceptance of rape myths, sexually aggressive behavior and/or the likelihood of forcing sex, and positive attitudes toward the tolerance for sexual harassment as cited in Syzmanski & Stewart-Richardson (2014). Basically pornography makes women look like sexual objects for men, not only are they viewed as sexual objects, pornography gives men a message that women’s bodies may be touched, stared at, and used by man at any time he so pleases (Syzmanski & Stewart-Richardson,
