Today the debate over domestic violence should had been classified as a thing of the past. A medieval practice where a female is considered the property of man, therefore, he can do with her as he pleases. The reality is that public policy has allowed for the social meaning to challenge the practice of wife assault. In recent years, domestic battery is now considered a serious crime. Most of this change has been contributed to the massive awareness campaigns made by the “battered women’s movement” (Williams, 1989). Despite the education campaigns and mass policy overhaul the crime continues to take place. Rice and his girlfirend were videotaped arguing inside an elevator at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The video capture undisputively that Rice ended the altercation by literaly punching his female companion in the face. The stick obviously carried enough force behind it that she became uncouncious. Rice then proceeds to drag her limp body into a the elevator and out of the view of the camera (Capers, 2016). It should be added that at no point during this incident Rice called for help. The video was broadcasted via a multitide of entertainment venues and revived multiple times. Public outcry over the outrageous manner that the victim was manhandled forced both the police department as well as the National Football League to action. Rice quitely married his victim and makes a public apology for his “mistake.” In addition, his bride also apolgiezes for her role in the incident. Ultimately the case went before the maistrate and the judge dismissed the case after accepting a pretrial intervention program that included anger management course. The NFL also responded by suspending Rice for two games, however, once the case was dismissed Rice was welcomed back on the field (Saliba, 2015).
