Does the Quran encourage Sexism in Muslim Societies?
Did you know the Quran says that one man is equal to two women? Quran states multiple times that men are superior than women, but that is in Allah and his followers eyes. This is only an inkling on what the Quran says about sexism though. Which raises a big question. Does the Quran encourage sexism in Muslim societies?
The Quran shows that Allah does actually believe men are superior to women by multiple standards. Quran (4:34) - "Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them." This is quote from the Quran is showing that Allah does actually believe about men being superior than women by multiple standards. This quote from the Quran says that men have the right to choose what women wear. (Quran 33:59) “Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close around them...Men determine how women dress.”
