In the 21st century, does a college education still matter? In the 21st century, the debate regarding the importance and relevance of a college education has always been a well-known, important topic. When deciding the path you want to take regarding your future, whether it is straight into the workforce or pursuing a college education, there can be major setbacks you will face while applying for this job if not able to provide some type of college degree. Although a college education may seem like a waste of time, the outcome is worth it. Anyone who has a well paying job has had to work hard for the position that they are in; in order to now be able to have enough money to be comfortable and satisfied with where they stand financially. Not only can a college degree help their further career choices, it can better assist one to better find a job that is going to better meet their needs. When having a career, one must be educated in that field in order to be promoted and grow with the company. Sanford J.Ungar insists “the career education bandwagon seems to suggest that shortcuts are available to students that lead directly to high paying jobs”. When a college student graduates, or even while still enrolled in college, they are more likely to be recognized by companies that will offer a salary that the student wants in order for them to start working for the company. A college degree has the ability to show managers and business owners who are searching for new employees that the student is well educated and responsible when it comes to being consistent and getting something
