An important part of choosing any career path is understanding oneself. Coming to terms with one’s strength and weaknesses allows for preparing to go into the workforce while simultaneously providing time to choose a job that will become something to wake up for. In taking the Do What You Are Assessment, I outlined my strengths and weaknesses, analyzed how I will use that for my goal career, how that might fit into the workforce, and my place on teams. Reading the assessment felt like words being given to how I felt and didn’t know how to explain. Diagnosing patients is helpful if one can relate to the patient, but remaining objective is imperative. Ethical physicians are the only type one feels safe under, but also a physician who can meet one where they are, regardless of health or prior choices if there is a commitment to getting better. These are just some examples of how my strengths work, but can also be improved. Work environment also factors into my career choice. I had always felt that a workplace without much stress and tension, whether from colleges or clients, would be best for me. When picturing my dream job there was always a small group of friends I worked consistently with, where I was allowed freedom within certain parameters; I was creative without pressure on those ideas, and details were easily handled. The assessment agreed. However, this is somewhat at odds with the global workforce. With the current pace of the world, and the understanding that it will be stressful and often detail-oriented, I have some worries about matching expectations. In the areas of communication and creative thinking, I excel given enough time. I work very well on teams, so I will not struggle with that. Because I see myself as versatile in what I can bring to the group, I often take whatever position has not been filled. Using this report, I can see that I need to be more open with whatever I may need from my group: constructive criticism, a sounding board, support. Being more open with what I need and how I can work with the group to see all group needs met, we can be more efficient and we will all feel more fulfilled. In a group, my creativity and perception can help with coming up with ideas that will impress the judge of our project, and my organization is always a welcome addition when it comes to preparing and making our project. When planning, I must keep in mind my tendency to be impractical with implementation and scope, not to mention resources available. When supporting, I must make sure to allow my creativity to shine rather than simply following orders and not thinking for myself. When in the role of communicator, I must make sure to keep myself in the conversation rather than slipping into the trap of middleman. Overall, knowing these things and having a plan will be sure to improve any team I am a part
