There are many factors that could lead to a car crash and you need to be prepared in case you are in one or see one. The Utah DMV handbook provides 5 steps that need to be executed if and when a crash occurs. The responsibility of a driver is to always try to avoid a crash, but if there is a crash there are steps to take to ensure the possible safety of the drivers and others affected by a crash. The following five steps is what the Utah DMV says to do and all information is by the works of the DMV unless cited otherwise.

The first step to take if involved in a crash is to stop immediately. There is a possibility that your licence will be revoked or suspended for failing to stop at the scene of a crash and you may get fined up to $2,500 and a year in jail. After stopping at the crash the second step that a responsible driver should take is to render aid. The third step that needs to be taken is traffic clearance.
