Every day Pit Bull”s in shelters are killed just because people discriminate them by the breed of dog they are. Many people think that all Pit Bulls are the same as the other, but the truth is “All dogs are individuals”[Best friends.org]. Also, people think the name Pit Bull means a mean fighting dog, but that is also false their name actually means dog of America. Everything that people in America do to make all Pit Bulls disappear forever is like saying they want America to disappear forever because America wasn't built off of the small fluffy yippee dogs, it was built off of the big dogs the Pit Bulls, Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Boxers, and other dogs like them. And the discrimination against all of these dogs needs to stop and come to an end …show more content…
I will talk about them getting killed in shelters, dog fighting, what Pit Bulls are actually like, and what the other people think Pit Bulls are like. In shelters most Pit Bulls are killed within a couple of days because most shelters are afraid that they will hurt the other dogs because they are well known for dog fighting. In most cases “Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes are the dogs most at risk of being killed in animal shelters around the country because of the sheer number of them and the negative stigma surrounding them”.It is so wrong just kill Pit Bulls for what they are like. Perhaps the reason why pit bulls are feared by society is because we are afraid of what they are associated with. Pit bulls are often thought of as a gangster’s pet, a role in violent and illegal activities. People stereotype this breed because of the unfortunate acts of few. In contrast, society needs to understand that they are being racist towards a breed of dog. Denver’s systematic killing of pit bulls could be compared to the actions of the Nazis during the Holocaust.
...ports Illustrated cover photo of a pit bull (Pit Bull Rescue Central, "Breed Information”). Dog fighting made a comeback during the 1980s and the pit bull became the favorite macho dog for dog fighters. The dogs were trained to kill or be killed. Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
The reason why Pit Bulls are aggressive is because it’s their nature and that’s the way they’re born. Everyone that is afraid of Pit Bulls says it’s the dog's fault and that it's their nature to fight and kill, but honestly it’s the owners fault for making them that way. “‘Though Pit Bulls have strong jaws and, like most dogs will hold onto their prey after biting it. There is no evidence that a Pit Bulls jaw are anatomically different from those of other breeds’”(Lallanilla). They are more likely than any other breeds to grab a hold of something and shake it. Many people associate a negative connotation with the dog breed “pit bull.” These dogs are thought to be dangerous and problematic. However, much of this can be attributed to the mass amounts of negative media attention that pit bull breeds receive as opposed to other breeds of dogs that can be just as dangerous. For example, The National Canine Research Council did a four-day study on dog-bite repo...
The misrepresentation of Pit Bull breeds in the media has been reflected in American culture. As these dogs were incorporated into World War I propaganda, they were perceived as symbols of courage and strength, the archetype of American dog breeds5. When, in the 1920s and 1930s, American Staffordshire Terrier “Pete the Pup” starred in the comedy Our Gang, later known as The Little Rascals, Pit Bulls were considered “nanny dogs” and family-friendly pets7. When the media focused heavily on illegal dog fighting rings and gang culture in the 1970s and 1980s, Pit Bulls were called demonic and unpredictable. Through their many roles, they have shown versatility and resilience, and lately they have suffered greatly.
Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow into their temperament. The way the dog is raised rounds out their character and general temperament. According to the “American Temperament Test Society: Pit bulls pass temperament tests 84.1% of the time, which ranks them slightly better than golden retrievers (83.8%) and cocker spaniels (81.7%), and well above miniature schnauzers (78.6%),” (The Biting Truth). Myths have generated atrocious attitudes towards this breed for years. The nature of the dog to be a protector to children and the bulky build of pit bulls makes them a very easy breed to target. These opinions ...
Roughly about 30% of all dogs are pit bulls that are taken to shelters which depending on the area that figure can raise up to 60%. Not every pit bull rescued were a part of dog fighting but John Goodwin, of the Humane Society, says most of the dogs have scars and marks to show for their fights. The fate of these dogs remain to a judge that determines whether the fight dogs need to be euthanized. Since these dogs were trained to be aggressive and attacks other animals 9 times out of 10 they are to be put down. The dogs that haven’t been a part of dog fighting fit into a family and shows no sign of
Since then, there has been a constant argument about whether or not this breed should be allowed to be kept as a pet. No one looks at pit bulls as normal dogs anymore. They are viewed as monsters. They have a crazy amount of strength, speed, and stamina. This can be used against them or for them depending on who is debating the issue of their legality.
I mean don't get me wrong, not all Pit Bulls are raised in this environment, but not all pit bulls attack people or other animals. We don't ban people for fighting? We actually promote it, there's the UFC, WWE, and many other forms of fighting television shows. So why should we get rid of these animals? The only difference is these are dogs being forced to fight or die.
Pit Bulls are put down every single day because of fear, However public education will change the negative information. While many believe it is okay to hate Pit bulls, others feel that hating Pit Bulls is wrong because it is based on the rumors and lies from society. I believe that it Pit Bulls are not understood by society, people believe that these dogs are very aggressive and should be illegal. I believe otherwise that Pit Bulls are not aggressive and should be legal. I also believe this because these dogs act the way they do because of the way they are raised up and how they are taught.
Pit bulls should be pets or mascots and many other things. They kept the dogs for hunters and back for the people that hunted so nothing would happen to them, and if something did happened to them
Pit bulls, also known as the "babysitter breed", have been around for many years. Just recently have they started to be stereo-typed in the media and in society as a vicious breed. People in general are not leery or startled by the type of dogs they are but then you have the ones that shriek or make those unbearable faces when they even hear the name pit bull mentioned in a sentence. They are no different than any other breed of dog, just the way they are raised. All breeds of dogs need love, cuddling and human interaction with structure in the form of tricks for treats or certain praising for things that they do well.
Pit bulls have the one of the strongest jaw power of any dog so when they attack it is close to impossible to make them let go of the victim because there jaws lock and they cannot let go. The owners can control on how the dog acts if you train it like a wild animal that is exactly what it is going to act like. For example the problem with people, not with pit bulls states “good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things”. That means the bad owners are raising the pit bulls to do atrocious things to other dogs or people. People take advantage of pit bulls because they are one of the strongest and their jaw power. Pit bulls are considered dangerous because the two breeds they are made of are fighting dogs which are bulldog and terrier and those are hunting dogs. Pit bulls are just like any other dog they can attack if you make them or they can be the greatest
What do you think of when I say the word pitbull? Do you picture a cute happy dog, wagging its tail happy to see you? Or do you see a mad dog, foaming mouth lunging at small child? If you are a owner of a pitbull then you probably see the happy cute dog. But if you don't own one then chances are you see pitbulls as mean dogs who are a threat to society. The media has painted a picture in our heads that it's in a pitbulls blood to be aggressive. Due to this false accusation, certain cities have banned breeds labeled as “aggressive”. If someone is caught owning a banned breed, the dog is usually euthanized. This is known as Breed Specific Laws or otherwise known as BSL.
Thesis Statement: Pit bulls are like any breed of dogs that needs to be handled properly by their owners because they can be taught to be less aggressive and more loyal.
