The festival of Dionysus was a big festival in Athens, Greece, honoring the Greek God Dionysus, the God of wine and theatre. The events included during this festival involved theatrical performances of dramatic tragedies and comedies. The Dionysus was originally held in Eleutherae, Attica, most likely celebrating the farming of vines. This is probably a very ancient festival and didn’t necessarily involve the God Dionysus, since it was actually in the winter months, which were also the months of Poseidon. The main event involved ypung girls carrying baskets, bread, water, wine and other things, dancing and signing and possibly theatre performances followed that event.
