There are many books out there. Along with those books follow their movies. Typically people usually complain of how the movie really sucked compared to the book. Most of the time these people are right. But, many of those people never say why the movie was so awful. In the movie “Angela’s Ashes” directed by Alan Parker, there are many noticeable differences from the book, “Angela’s Ashes” written by Frank McCourt. The majority of these differences came with the portrayal of Angela. And along with these differences come similarities.

I was astonished to hear that it took him seven years to write his book. It is very inspiration to see that he accomplished his goal. Seven years is a long time to stay on track yet he managed to produce a successful book. Margolick discussed the importance of honestly in his novel. Since his book is nonfiction, he had to be cautious of the way he wrote. He tried to write in the most truthful way. Focusing on the details and stories that these two women told, Margolick depicted Elizabeth and Hazel’s life accurately. His writing tips will definitely help me in the future. He encouraged us that honestly and sending out the most accurate message to ones audience is what is important. In the movie, Rat Kiley who is telling the story seems gentler. With all the awards and praise, the movie was considered to be a masterpiece. On the other hand, Ken Kesey felt that this production would ruin his mindset of his own novel. The main reason why there were more differences between the book and the movie was because Kesey had arguments with the producers, Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz. Of course, everyone has a different view of how a story should be told. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is superb as both a movie adaptation and a novel that all critics can appreciate.
Another example is when Chance watches television. In the book, the narrator explains that when Chance changes the channel, he feels like he is changing himself. As he changes the channel, he gets caught up in all the different images he sees. In the movie, all you see is a man watching television, which doesn't explain too much. In the movie, the only time we find out what Chance thinks of television is when he is talking to someone else.

The debate on cinematic adaptations of literary works was for many years dominated by the questions of fidelity to the source and by the tendencies to prioritize the literary originals over their film versions (Whelehan, 2006). In the transference of a story from one form to another, there is the basic question of adherence to the source, of what can be lost (Stibetiu, 2001). There is also the question of what the filmmakers are being faithful to or is it the novel’s plot in every detail or the spirit of the original (Smith, 2016). These are only few query on the issue of fidelity in the film adaptation.
