In the history of America there have been tons of criminals, mass murderers but never have citizens seen two people that were equally shouldering the burden together in shaping and changing crime in The United States. Both Al Capone and Charles “Lucky” Luciano made themselves known in the so called Prohibition era. When they sold liquor, it was called bootlegging. When their girls served liquor to them, it was called hospitality. Both of these criminals took part in the notorious Five Points Gang in Brooklyn, New York. However, Al Capone and Charles “Lucky” Luciano were prosecuted and charged with different crimes. Not able to speak english, Luciano struggled in school and dropped out. He preferred to learn and survive on the streets of New York's East Side(“Lucky Luciano.”). Starting young from age ten Luciano was already problematic and tricky getting involved in mugging, shoplifting and extortion(Britannica “Lucky Luciano” 1). One of the “jobs” he had first was getting his fellow schoolmates to pay him for protection and starting with ten to twenty cents a week he made his income but if they did not pay up he would beat them up himself. As a teenager he worked as a clerk for a hat company he managed a blooming criminal career as well. In 1916 he spent six month in jail for selling heroin(Britannica “Lucky Luciano” 1). Out of jail he got invested in the Five Points Gang and bestfriend Jewish gang members Meyer Lansky and his associate Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, who would later become his most important allies(“Lucky Luciano.” 2). Luciano earned his nickname “Lucky” by successfully escaping arrests and winning craps games.
