Bullying, something that was once simple and harmless has evolved into a very serious and destructive issue resulting in more problems like suicide and school shootings. According to the province of British Columbia “There are four types of bullying: physical, verbal, social, and cyber”. Some might say that bullying is a phase of immaturity but the fact is feelings are being hurt and people are being harmed, or even shunned and publicly humiliated as a result of bullying. Bullying is never going away, it’s only going to get worse and continue to change how it looks. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is a good example of showing this transition from the perspective of an incoming freshman. “This one night, she was saying very mean things about how he didn’t stand up to the class bully…he wound up and hit her hard across the face…I couldn’t believe he did it…I guess he stood up to his bully” (Chbosky11). Sometimes it gets so bad that people try to go to people in authority to get help and it proves to be useful and can make things worse than they were before. Hannah was in a really bad place and tried to seek help from someone she trusted but things got worse for her. We can see issues like this arise in today’s schools today because counselors and teachers are so overwhelmed by the amount of students that they can’t give attention or support to those who are in dire need of it. In conclusion, bullying has seemed to have erupted from simple name calling and evolved into harmful altercations among kids and students.
