Developing Bullying Awareness Programs in Schools

Throughout the years, many adolescents have gone through bullying in school. A child starting at the age of five to about eighteen has either been bullied or was the bully. Schools should have a bullying awareness program to prevent dangerous acts upon themselves and the other humans surrounding them. Victims in these situations often belittle themselves and do not want to attend school. While these targets work together in the program they will create a bond between each other as a community. All schools should have bullying awareness programs because it would decrease teenage suicide rates; bring unity between students, help the bully overcome their reasons of bullying and let adolescents feel comfortable in a school environment.

If schools have bully awareness programs teenage suicide rates can be decreased. Russell Skiba has stated in an article, “programs have been found to be effective in reducing bullying incidents by as much as 50 percent”(Skiba). If schools will provide students with a bullying awareness program then there could be a result of fewer students trying to commit suicide. Being picked on can make a person feel less confident, scared, and hate themselves. These bullies can even be known as your “friends” from school. Some children will then start to feel differently because they cannot fit in with the people surrounding them which will then lead them to feel as if they are not good enough. Bullies can lead children to go through many situations such as depression, anxiety, and social disorders. These harsh words from these bullies around the school can eventually lead a student to kill themselves. ...drama going on in their lives. With the help of the teachers and the bullying awareness program after school, the adolescents will become comfortable in a school environment.

In conclusion, Students will learn to stick up for themselves and grow to be an independent person. With this program, students will be able to open up to someone they can trust and create a bond with their teachers. The children will start to think positive and live a happy life style. There will be special bonds made with the students throughout the school. The school environment will become a judgment free zone and no student will feel alone or be harassed. If every school creates a bullying awareness program, there is a chance that the suicidal rate for children will decrease. All schools should have a bullying awareness program to stop bullying and have a safe, clean school environment.
