A leader and one of the founding members of the Mexican Muralist movement, Diego Rivera, was said to be the greatest Mexican painter during the 1920s. Rivera used his talents as a painter to tell the history and daily life of the Mexican people from its Mayan beginnings up to the Mexican Revolution.
Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez, formally referred as Diego Rivera, was born on December 8, 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico. His father Diego de la Rivera y Acosta was a municipal counselor in Guanajuato, and his mother Maria del Pilar Barrientos was an obstetrician. At the age of three, Rivera began to encounter with his artistic side and thus began his journey with murals. Furthermore, his parents created a special room that allowed young Rivera to be able to freely express himself on canvases rather than on the walls of his house.

Throughout his time at the academy, he learned traditional techniques in painting and sculpting as well as perspective and color. Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo are an important aspect of the Hispanic World and well-known names in Latino art. Rivera and Kahlo knew many famous painters such as Duchamp, Siqueiros, Orozco and Picasso. Picasso became a great friend of the family. Kahlo has influenced many places in Mexico. There are many land marks not only in Mexico but around the world. The Frida Kahlo Museum is located in Coyoacan Mexico in her Casa Azul home (blue house), this is the same place Kahlo was born, grew up, lived with her husband Rivera and died (Gale, 1996). The museum holds collections and embraces the personal effects of both artists shining light on the way of life for affluent Mexican writers and artist during the first half of the century. The Dolores Olmedo Museum at Hacienda La Noria is another museum-house from the 16th century monastery, includes many of Kahlo’s famous paintings such as “The Broken Column,” “Luther Burbank,” and holds a large amount of Rivera’s works of art (Gale, 1996). Rivera’s murals of his wife Frida, himself, and various members of their family and friends can be found at the Secretariat of Public Education (where he met his wife), the Mexico City’s National Palace, the Museo de la Alameda, and the Palace of Fine Arts (Gale, 1996).

Many countries have the pleasure of celebrating Independence Days. These historic holidays are filled with nationalistic celebrations and delicious traditional food. In Chile, the natives celebrate their break from Spain with Fiestas Patrias. In Mexico, the president begins the celebration by ringing a bell and reciting the “Grito de Dolores” and he ends his speech by saying “Viva Mexico” three times.
At the age of 12, he joined the National School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Europe, with a state scholarship. Upon his return, he exhibited his work in Mexico, and it was a largely successful. To escape the civil war in his country, Rivera travelled to Paris in 1911. The artist leaded a bohemian life between Spain and Paris. His works were exhibited at the Modern Gallery in New York, with particularly Picasso’s. In 1920, he returned to Mexico, where he completed his first mural. After delivering ‘ultra-intellectual’ experiments and embracing the people’s cause, Rivera returned from his studies to Mexico. I was born in Mexico and raised in beautiful San Diego since the age of four. Coming to the United States at a very young age I had to face many challenges that have shaped me to the person that I am today. I consider myself a Chicana woman who has overcome the obstacles to get were I am know. Being raised in a Mexcian household has thought me to embrace my culture and its roots. The painting entitled `Zapata con el caballo de Cortés` was painted in 1931, eleven years after the end of The Mexican Revolution, by the Mexican muralist – Diego Rivera. It represents the social economic and political revolution in Mexico led by peasants under the conduct of Emiliano Zapata against the authoritarian regime of the former president - Portfolio Diaz. In this analysis I will focus on the characters, the setting, the colours and the way they communicate in the painting.
In the painting of the Liberation of the Peon, Diego Rivera depicts soldiers cutting down a naked man from a post. At first glance, the soldiers appear to have whipped and beaten the man. Without careful deliberation, viewers could easily interpret the scene this way due to the visible scars on the man’s body. However, through visual clues, viewers of the Liberation of the Peon can infer that this is not the case. In actuality, the soldiers are helping the man down from the post and providing him with a blanket.

What is culture? Many people ask themselves this question every day. The more you think about it the more confusing it is. Sometimes you start leaning to a culture and then people tell you you’re wrong or they make you feel like a different person because of your culture. I go through this almost every day. Because of the way I was raised I love Mexican rodeo but I was born and raised in Joliet. This can be very difficult trying to understand culture. I live in this huge mix of culture. Culture is personal. People can have many cultures especially in America and because of globalization. Cultural identity is not one or the other, it is not Mexican or American. Pablo Picasso, the creater of many famous works of art, is a man born on october 25th 1881, with two sisters Lola and Conchita. His sister Conchita at the age of 4 fatally died. When Pablo was 8 his interests in painting started to get him into actually painting. Since the artist had such talent he then at the age of 5 got drawing lessons in Malaga, and his father who is an art teacher supported that in every way. The artist took the distinctive name of his mother. He was an artistic prodigy, When picasso was 14 he qualified for the test of the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona in one day. He may have been the best at art and drawing but that didn’t disclude the fact that Picasso wasn’t a great student and he would rather draw in notebooks than learning anything in class. When Pablo was just a little older (16 years old) he was continuing with this bad behavior in school, or out of school by skipping it to go and draw the people and citizens of Madrid.
In 1885 his family moved to Barcelona, Spain after his father obtained a teaching post at that city’s academy of fine Arts. Picasso was admitted to advanced classes in the academy after he completed in a single day the entrance examination that applicants were traditionally given a month to complete. In 1897 Picasso left Barcelona to further his study at the San Fernando academy in Madrid witch was located in the Spanish capital. His academic studies did not last long in Madrid. He was unhappy with the training he was receiving and he left and returned back to his home in Barcelona Spain.
