My personality strength that matches dental hygiene is that to be good at math. When you 're a Dental Hygienist, you should be pretty good with numbers. The reason why you should be good with numbers is because every tooth in your mouth is numbered, so you should know exactly which tooth is which number. Another good strength to have is to be good at reading. You would have to be good at reading to read the patient files and read what has to be done at that appointment.
3. How does this career match your interests? (Realistic, Artistic, Social, Investigative, Conventional , Enterprising) How does this career match your preferred lifestyle?
My two main interests are social and investigative. First, I like to investigate the teeth such as what kind of teeth do the patients have and how it will look later. Also, go deeper in teeth and do the surgery.
For social, I like to be connected with people such as know the patients’ life. I think many people don’t like to talk or communicate about their lives, but the more you talk to patients while working on their teeth, the more the patients won’t care about the pain.

Out of all the careers in the world, a dental hygienist probably has one of the most interesting and flexible jobs. Having shadowed a dental hygienist prior to that of a dental assistant I didn’t know what to expect their job to be. Although I did assume a dental assistant’s job consisted of handing instruments to the doctor during the various procedures so I was surprised to see just how many responsibilities they have. Each dental clinic has different expectations of what they require their dental assistant to do in my shadowing experience they were responsible for: preparing the room prior to the patients arrival, greeting the patient upon arrival and inviting them into the operation room, confirming dental history with the patient, briefing them on the procedure they are about to have and what to expect, answering the clients questions to the best of their abilities, assisting the doctor in the procedure and aiding with any tasks required of you, when the patient is ready to leave helping them to look presentable and explaining what to expect after that kind of procedure, updating and verifying dental records, and sanitizing and sterilization of the room and all instruments after departure of
Dental hygienists have the responsibility to provide patients with a treatment plan centered on scientific based research. However, hygienists need to assess the credibility of the results found on scientific research reports, reviews, and the information about products and treatment modalities. As we grow up, we are often asked what we want to be. Many people say careers such as a doctor or an actor. When I grow up, I want to be a dental hygienist. When I tell people this they often think i’m crazy for wanting to “work in someone’s mouth”. Dental hygiene is appealing to me. It is a big part of personal hygiene and keeping yourself healthy. One of the first things a person notices about you is your smile and I want to help people perfect theirs. I know that being a dental hygienist will not be the easiest thing in the world but there are some benefits. You don’t have to work full time if you don’t want to. Also as stated by Jenny Lewellen, “Overtime is not expected” (Lewellen). Hygienists also get a good salary. “The median annual wage for
When envisaging a future career, we generally tend to base our ideas off of the most known careers such as doctors, chefs, police officers and fireman, without the knowledge of the other possible career opportunities. After doing weeks of extensive research, I found a very feasible and riveting future career, a Dental Hygienist. Dental Hygiene is a preventive oral health profession that helps people maintain better dental health for the future. Though this career seems quite easy, it’s a crucial job that adults and children of all ages need.
Dental hygienists often describe their careers as rewarding, being able to be with patients on a one on one basis is very intimate and gratifying. When you ask a dental hygienist what technology impacts their everyday experience it is almost a comical reaction. There has been many advances technologically in the dental field, however, most end up benefitting the dentist. Dental hygiene is still fueled by good old fashioned elbow grease. It takes experience and education to be able to identify what needs to be cleaned on a patient’s teeth and there is not an instrument to substitute that. In 1987 Dr. Francis Mouyen introduced the first digital radiography machine (IIic & Stojanovic, 2012, p.81). This has proven to be a significant advancement for dental hygienists. It has enabled them to do their job more efficiently. Digital dental x-rays have revolutionized the dental hygiene profession because hygienists no longer have to wait to develop the film, they are able to take 3-D images which helps diagnose periodontal disease more effectively, and they are able to send the films in digital format to other professionals, which allows them to communicate about a patients care in a more
When most people think of dental hygienists, the first and only thing they think about it cleaning and whitening teeth. However, that is mainly what dental hygienists do, but they also learn to do a lot more than that. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health. As explained on American Dental Association, the dental hygienist...

Yes, dental hygienists face several challenges in an everyday scenario, but they also face the challenge of benefiting others outside of their job and to the ones who are not as fortunate as others. It is imperative that dental hygienists and other health professions come together to expand their knowledge and practices to help the poor. The future of dental hygiene is expected to come from the interaction within the communities, and in order to do so, hygienists need to find the drive and put in the extra effort to encourage others to focus more on their health in order to stay healthy. If the dental field works to help others, their biggest challenge will soon become their
As time goes on there is new demands or requirements in education and work environments. Most of the dentistry field stresses the skills of cleaning teeth, communication with patients and knowing how to use an x-ray. However, employees in the dentistry field might have to get additional education on the new advanced instruments or computer system rather than focusing on how to make the patient more comfortable. If this keeps going, machines might take over doing common oral cleanings rather than hygienist doing it. There is no promising that anything drastic will change in the future, but it should be a concern; a concern that pops the question, "Will proper care be met during the era of
