Looking Back and My Definition of Success

Looking back over my life in 30 years is almost unfathomable. Just thinking about what my life might be like in 30 years is exciting, intimidating, and a little frightening. One of my greatest desires is that I look back with a sense of pride and accomplishment. People tend to measure success by the results that they see. Sadly, many people consider material wealth as the most accurate indicator of a successful person. Although, I do hope to be successful in my career that is not how I will personally define my success. I hope to be accomplished in my career and also have personal relationships that add to the quality of my life. I would much rather have whole life experiences that pursue monetary status while everything else is neglected. Having a family, contributing to society, and making our world a better place will be my measure of success. My job will not be my only mission in life. I know that I will be successful in my career, but I will not let it become more important than my relationships and my passion. When I look back over my life, I will consider myself successful if I have completed my education and I am spending my time doing work that is meaningful and satisfying. I believe that doing something that I really enjoy will elevate me to the greatest heights of success. Life is meaningless if someone doesn’t contribute something back to society. I hope when I look back on my life, I will consider myself successful if I have treated people with dignity and respect; if I valued the people in my life; if I have attained a level of mastery in my career; if I have always done my best; and if I have always put my heart, mind, and soul into everything I have done.
