A True Hero

A hero can be generalized as a fiction character, with powers, strength, and abilities beyond mankind, but they are so much more than that. What defines a hero? "Heroism is trying your hardest, no matter the obstacles to go beyond the needs of yourself to help others." - (Springboard page 85). Your local firefighter is a hero. Your teacher is a hero. Your grandpa is a hero. Your mother is a hero. Your neighbor is a hero. Even you are a hero. We all have the characteristics of a hero as people. But a true hero puts behind all other things the we have as humans; Fear, selfishness, ignorance, greed, evil, wrong doing, etc.

Before 9/11, Rescorla had battled in Vietnam and earned a silver star as an Army Officer. During the war, he would sing his childhood songs to soldier's to calm them down when bombs were being fired overhead. When flight eleven hit the tower next to him, he was working as a head corporate security. He was told to keep everyone on the floor, but he refused, and argued that the tower would go down and so would all of the people. He evacuated 2,700 people down the stairs, while singing God Bless America over the blow horns, which warmed the hearts of others around him. He then made a call to his wife and said, "Stop crying. I have to get these people out safely. If something should happen to me, I want you to know I've never been happier. You made my life". He was said to be last seen on the tenth floor of the south tower looking for others, and afterwards, there was no sight of his body.
