Deep Sea Fishing
Wow! I love going deep sea fishing on our boat. I was excited when my
dad had asked me if I wanted to go this weekend. We departed that Saturday
morning after almost a week of sheer anticipation, our destination, Port
Canaveral, home of of some of the best fishing on the east coast of Florida.
The sea is a very dangerous place when riled by a storm, even a mild one,
so we always made sure the day would be at least close to perfect before we
ventured out into the blue darkness of the open sea. My dad and I had seen the
destruction careless boaters could get themselves into, and we did our best to
avoid it. That Saturday, though, looked as if it were a perfect offshore
fishing day. The sky was clear as glass, with a couple straggling cirrus
clouds, but nothing worth paying attention to, and above that, the fish were
supposedly hitting offshore. All-in-all, the long awaited perfect fishing day
had come, at least in our minds it had.
In the meantime, my dad backed the boat into the salty murky water as I
got the boat ready for our day long journey. I set the navigation system to a
favorite fishing spot of ours which was about twenty-five miles out called the
Pelican Flats. We headed out on the gently, quiet, rolling blue monster's back
as our twenty-two foot vessel handled the one to two foot ocean swells with
sheer ease. Finally, after an hour long haul, and fifteen fishing minutes
later, we ran into our first sign of action.
"Fish on starboard!!" screamed my younger brother.
"Fish on stern, grab 'em!", bellowed by dad from the steering wheel.
Instinctly, my brother and I had quickly grabbed the poles as the line
screamed off and the tips bent almost to the water. Soon enough, both of us had
fish on, very large fish from the feel. About half an hour of sweat and a good
workout, we finally got the fish to give up their fight for life. That was the
first time we had ever encountered a double hook-up, which happens when two
fish of a considerable size are hooked simultaneously, and it happened in less
than fifteen minutes. We ended up fishing for about four more hours and landed
an incredible number of large fish, and we wanted more. The three of us
scanned the surface for more action, and found nothing of interest but what
looked like a storm cloud moving towards us at an unknown velocity about
Dad was continuing to man the helm as we ran our afternoon-start streak to four in a row. Among the nice features of getting on the water early is that conditions are often calmer and more boating-friendly early in the day. As the day progresses winds frequently pick up and the seas grow rougher. This was exactly the case this day as we crossed Lake St Louis in rough seas accompanied by high winds.
Our boat sludged onward towards the team’s tent. The only sign of life came from our stroke seat who feverishly refreshed the results.
A prince should not concern himself with living virtuously, but rather with acting so as to achieve the most practical benefit. Such vices are truly evil if they endanger the state, but when vices are employed in the proper interests of the state, a prince must not be influenced by condemnation from other men. Machiavelli argues that a prince should always try to appear virtuous, but that acting virtuously for virtue’s sake can prove detrimental. Every action the prince takes must be considered in light of its effect on the state, not in terms of its intrinsic moral value. Machiavelli criticizes the concept of a “good life” reflected in the Aristotelian doctrine that demands virtuous actions in all types of behavior. But, a prince must break his promises when they put him at a disadvantage and when the reasons for which he made the promises no longer exist. In any case, promises are never something on which a prince can rely, since men are by nature wretched and deceitful. A prince should be a master of deception. Machiavelli does not argue that a prince should actively avoid doing what is good but that, if necessary, a prince must be prepared to act
“ Well of course, ” answered my father, “It’ll just be like I’m out of town for a very long time. Y’all will see me every other weekend.”
The Prince reveals the uncommon truth and unorthodox tradition about being a magnificence ruler. Niccolo Machiavelli changes the old moral ways of medieval political. The people of Machiavelli’s era made a definition for his methods called Machiavellianism and it’s considered negative represents such as be cunning or deceitful. Machiavelli methods recovered the power of an arising ruler. Machiavelli’s experiences with being with royalty showed how to a ruler should be and will really help a lot of other rulers centuries later becoming great rulers.
Fishing contains a wide variety of physics. when you cast you are using projectile motion and rotational motion. when you hook a fish it will often use the drag from the current agenst you. Immagine draging a fish through a swift current. You deal with the tention of your line, and the friction of the line through the guides. you also deal with friction when you use a drag.
As we pulled out of my parents driveway, the circumstances seemed very surreal. My entire way of life had been turned upside down with only a few hours consideration. I was very much “at sea” in the ...
Machiavelli once said ‘Because men are wretched creatures who would not keep their word to you, you need not keep your word to them’. Machiavelli is seen in history as one of the most influencing men of all time. Matter a fact, “the name Machiavelli was a synonym for the devil” (Barnett page 6). Machiavelli established a lot of this reputation from his work The Prince, it was written in 1513-1514. But, a lot people thought that he was misunderstood considering he wrote many books and people focus mostly on one. Second you must take the time period into thought and realize how the world was about 500 years ago.
Machiavelli's views have been misinterpreted since his book was first written, people take him in the wrong way, and are offended by what he says. Careless readers take him in a completely wrong way, such as they think that he believes that the end justifies the means, that a leader should lie to the people, and that a ruler has to rule with force. In actuality, Machiavelli means no such thing, he says that there are times when the common good outweighs the means, and the morality of a rulers actions. He also says that you cannot be loved by everyone, so try to be loved and feared at the same time, but of the two, choose to be feared. The Prince is considered to be one of the most important of nonfiction literature written in the history of mankind. It gave an accurate and truthful description of the method of governing.
I believe that Machiavelli had a valid point with his writing. In government, whether it is a politician, or in Machiavelli’s case a prince, that person of power is responsible for their people which means he must do whatever it takes to protect them regardless of the immorality of their actions. Machiavelli is realistic when it comes to his reasons; he doesn’t believe someone of power should sugar-coat their actions instead, keep the “ideal prince” appearance while acting realistically such as waging war and fighting. Someone of power who governs over their people have to do what is needed, regardless of others opinions. By doing what he needs to, one may even be forgiven for dishonesty. Overall, Machiavelli argued that a ruler should be feared and the main purpose is always to gain more
Also in section 18 of The Prince, Machiavelli says this: “So, as a prince is forced to know how to act like a beast, he must learn from the fox and the lion; because the lion is defenseless against traps and a fox is defenseless against wolves” (Pg. 56). Prior to this statement, Machiavelli explains that fighting can be done by law and force, the former by man and the latter by beasts. However, Machiavelli states that, for a prince, fighting solely by law is not always adequate; therefore he must fight with force. Machiavelli chooses two beasts to illustrate this, the lion and the fox. The lion ...
...mazingly) and we watched the engines start up, with water whirling everywhere below the surface. I ran to the front of the boat to look down into the water and I kept noticing all these little white puffs everywhere. From where I was, they kind of looked like plastic bags floating through the water. I called Kristi and my dad over to see them. As we were watching, these poofy little balls kept appearing out of nowhere, there must have been hundreds. Finally, a really big one floated its way into our line of vision and from the eighth deck we were able to see what they were. Jellyfish! Cute little iridescent balls of cotton.
Fishing has been used for ages for many things like food, sport, and just for amusement of the chase; because of this, many different techniques have been developed from the centuries fishing been constructed. Also fishing can be a purpose for life just like what Henry David Thoreau said “Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after”. Everyone has issues in their life and fishing can help with it in many forms. Over all the years love of fishing has grown and, many different types have emerged such as fly-fishing, saltwater, and freshwater fishing. Also there are many different styles of fishing to the different types from baits to the rod. Because, of the constant demand and love for fishing, salt water fishing has become a growing industry along the coast of America, and saltwater fishing provide a recreational sport for many, but it can require boat access and the correct license and fishing equipment.
He states in paragraph fourteen that “since they (men) are a sad lot, and keep no faith with you, you in turn are under no obligation to keep it with them”. Machiavelli believes that men will lie, cheat, or steal if it has some benefit to them, and while a prince shows the...
Text Box: On this occasion coming into the harbour, the seagulls surrounded the boat because of the fish we had onboard. It was just our luck that we caught a fish which came to the surface of the water at that time, and so a seagull dived for it, and we then had a seagull which woulnt let go of the fish so we had to reel them both in, and sea gulls can give quite a nasty nip. My uncle was also quite unnerved at being at the back of the boat with all of these birds flying over.
