We didn't work because they were bad parents and couldn't support us, we worked because my parents thought it was the right way to raise us. An author’s way of writing and portraying a character are one of the important things to note when reading a novel. However an author wishes to write their novel, there is always a drawback to it. Kazuo Ishiguro’s way of writing his novel Never Let Me Go is in a first person perspective where the narrator, Kathy H., reassess her life of being a clone but the way Kathy remembers and discusses her memories of living in Hailsham is hindered by the fact she inputs her own feelings and thoughts into what happened in the past.
As a child I was not in to many sports or involved in school activities. Going through high school I figured out that being involved in a sport or a school club would make my high school experience better. The first and only sport I chose to do was track. Track changed my whole high school experience and life. I learned to never give up, and it kept me out of trouble throughout my four years of high school.
Neither my parents nor I had that desire for myself; therefore not one sport was more central than the other. Academic success stood as the most valuable compared to athletic success. That environment placed less pressure for me to train with greater intensity and focus when it came to competitive sports. Sports were extra-curricular activities as opposed to a full-time job and the pathway to the subsequent level. I absolutely benefitted from playing multiple sports throughout my youth.
They don't think about paying for the sport they are going to play. This can make students second-guess themselves about playing and make them not want to play their sport. Schools should want more and more students to play sports. These reasons are terrible for students to stay in active and not play any sports. “Taxpayers are saying, ‘Let’s get rid of sports. We don’t have to pay for them,’ School boards are saying ‘Hey, it’s not mandatory to offer these programs.’ What we’re saying is, ‘Well, we still have something to offer that is very important in this country.’” (Popke, 2007, p. xx). Sports teach to students a lot in their life, it's a great deal of responsibility. My family member chose not to play sports. She had grown up in a large family with strict values. Later in high school, her brother and her were left in Ohio while her parents traveled to and from West Virginia for weeks at a time. This was her first taste of freedom. My parents have always pushed me to be better than they were. They knew that if I wanted to be successful I needed to go to college. In highschool, they always made me put my education before anything else. My parents didn’t go to college so they would always tell me to not make that mistake because their lives could have been easier if they would of just invested a few more years into their education. They would also tell me about all the opportunities that missed out on because they decided not to further their education.
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
One year ago I realized that drinking and driving is very dangerous. My cousin Janet had everything that anyone will ever ask for in life, a car, a job, a boyfriend that loved her more than anything else in the whole world, a son and a promising future. All that changed when she decided to drive home from a party after drinking. She fall asleep at the wheel, crashed her car very bad into a ditch. Janet was my role model who I looked up in many ways, she always inspired by how hard she worked, but all that changed in one day. For nearly two months she remained in coma and now she is spending several time in rehabilitation to help he learn basic motor functions such as talking, walking and swallowing . For the rest of her life she will likely suffer from memory loss, dangerous seizures and even impaired speech.
My parents have jobs, like Soda and Darry, and similar to them they work their butts of to provide for us. Right now, we are going through the crisis where we might lose our house. I can relate to Ponyboy, as I am in an alike situation to him; I have two people who work hard to provide for me, and give me opportunities. Thats where we vary although, my life getting easier than
Southeastern University is a private, Co-ed, Christian university. SEU’s main focus is to equip their students to be a next generation of leaders so that they can enter the real world as influential servants to their careers and communities. Southeastern university offers a plentiful amount of study programs, even the program I am interested in which is Human services. I selected this school First because it is a Christian college, and Second because of the programs of study. I chose to go to a Christian college because I grew up in a Christian household and because I believe in Jesus. I also chose Southeastern University because of the programs of study. SEU was one of the few colleges that had a program of study that I was interested in.
Growing up my parents, more so my dad, was huge in playing sports. He played everything he could during his high school years such as football, basketball and of course baseball. He played baseball at a junior college as well as a division 1 school. For my dad, he never missed a day of practice and his parents (my grandparents) were there every step of the way. With him being an only child, my grandparents not only spoiled him but pushed him to be his best in everything just, so he could be the best he could be.
In many families, both parents have day jobs, leaving the student with nor ride to or from practices and games. In addition to both parents having jobs, sometimes neither parent has a job, therefore they cannot afford a car or gas to constantly run the student to and from practice. Many families also have get togethers throughout the year to celebrate various things, leaving the student the difficult decision to choose between sports and family.
Most parents believe that participation in extracurricular activities affects a child in a lot of good ways. My parents were no exception. After school, I was always being driven from piano to basketball to swimming and so on. At the time, I thought I was the world's busiest kid. But after all these years, I can easily see that I have gained some really important benefits from those activities. Playing the piano is probably the greatest benefit.
