Bullying is a severe problem that has intensely affected students’ ability to advance academically and socially. Bullying can be categorized as teasing, taunting, physical torment that are initiated by one or more students against another student. Modern technologies of social media and electronic devices have benefited us in our daily everyday activities, but if landed in the wrong hands technology can be harmful. In recent years with the innovation of technology bullying has expanded into cyberspace making it more dangerous and harder to contain. The new phenomenon of bullying is called cyberbullying. Traditional bullying usually last into certain years of an adolescent’s life, with cyberbullying there is a long lasting negative traumatic effects which includes anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and other stress and emotional disorders. Traditional bullying usually happens at school, on the way to and from school and after school. Most bullies seems physically stronger than their victims. Traditional bullying causes low self-esteem, problems at school and violent behavior. Adolescents who experience cyberbullying feel vulnerable and powerless. The adolescents do not feel safe they begin to feel a sense of invasion. The adolescents begin to feel exposed and humiliated once the information is posted in cyberspace, they know it is hard to get it removed. Cyberbullying can cause the victim to inflict hurt on himself or herself by harming themselves in an uncommon way. Cyberbullying can cause hatred in the victim’s heart where he or she begins to think of a way to harm the bully. Cyberbullying can cause isolation because they do not know who to trust, so they seclude themselves from their families and friends. Adolescents who experience cyberbullying often suffer with headaches, stomachaches, and several other physical ailments. Some may suffer from insomnia, binge eating, nightmares, and stomach ulcers. Cyberbullying increase the risks of suicide. Parents have their child to suicide due to cyberbullying. Suicide caused by bullying can be related to any type of bullying traditional bullying, emotional bullying, and cyberbullying.
