Cultural Humility Cultural humility was a film based on opinions and reactions to the concept itself. The film started out with two females describing “Cultural Humility” as a “multi-dimensional concept”, where it begins as a life learning and critical self reflection process where we need to understand that each one of us is a completely different individual, who is unique in its own way. They also talk about recognizing and challenging power imbalances to create better partnerships. This part of the film starts out by talking about those who lack power are the ones who are denied the ability to challenge their human rights. On the other hand, when it comes to cultural humility it’s a better approach because you are not forced to understand and be aware of a particular topic. Cultural humility is basically how you interpret what is in front of you. Even though you are limited to the knowledge you have about a particular cultural, you still will somehow handle that situation to appease whatever cultural challenges you may encounter, and open up to learn about it. I think cultural humility is preferred overall because you are not obligated to learn a behavior, topic, or follow rules to accommodate a person or adjust to a particular situation, but rather to experience circumstances that will make you more self-aware of what else is there to learn about those who are completely different then …show more content…

I am the type of person that likes to feel as important as the Caucasian male sitting next to me on the train. I am a small person compared to my coworkers and many would agree that a loss prevention officer job is no job for a female who is less than 5ft tall. I once was denied a job opportunity because of my height and gender; yet when I was given the chance, I proved that my gender and height could do the job even better than my male coworkers. Now I am one of the top ten in the company when it comes to shoplifting case productivity. I did recognize that inequality and prejudices existed as I was trying to get the job, but I also did not let those barriers affect me, just because some doors may had close along my path, it does not mean that I was less nor good than the person who got their first. I believe it is important to take into consideration the three dimensional parts of cultural humility, and practice them because it gives us a better understanding of what to expect in different areas of society. By learning and being aware of critical self reflection, we just don’t learn on how to deal with ourselves but others. Therefore we are able to be conscious of the challenges that people experience also.
