Summary
An announced multidimensional crisis simulation was developed in conjunction with the site Operations Manager (VP Operations) and local fire department to allow the site incident response and Crisis Management Team to exercise their teams by demonstrating and practicing their capabilities related to incident response, crisis management, and business continuity. The exercise was used to validate capability, processes, improve inter-organizational coordination, and provide for improvisational practice and decisions.
The simulation was requested to provide opportunity for the site Crisis Management Team to under stress of a simulation practice procedures and identify improvements. Preparation for the simulation occurred through multiple site visits and discussions that allowed for facts gathering, discussion, and procedure review. As a result, the simulation was by design constructed with sensitivity allowing for confidence building and learning while reflecting a maturity-based approach accounting for perceived added non scenario related challenges/internal stress given 1) the team’s level of experience demonstrating their crisis management responsibilities and using the procedures/tools is minimal and 2) the level and number of observers present (corporate and

Having a basic plan ready for these types of disaster events is key to the success of executing and implementing, as well as assessing the aftermath. There are many different ways to create an emergency operations plan (EOP) to encompass a natural and/or man-made disaster, including following the six stage planning process, collection of information, and identification of threats and hazards. The most important aspect of the US emergency management system in preparing for, mitigating, and responding to man-made and natural disasters is the creation, implementation and assessment of a community’s EOP.

1. First, in order to prevent a crisis situation, it is very important to know your triggers and arousal patterns. I came to know how to maintain control when someone is triggered and how to reduce arousal patterns. This is course provide me with great knowledge that will help me during a crisis. In order to understand the thought process of leadership during a crisis, the authors state that we must first understand a conceptual model that is theoretically grounded, (Combe & Carrington, 2015). The conceptual model is divided into two elements, the descriptive and prescriptive mental models, (Combe & Carrington, 2015). The prescriptive mental model concentrates on future actions that need to be implemented to derail the cognitive overload due to continuous external changes as the situation unfolds. Thursday - The team held a meeting on every Thursday evening. The meetings were conducted using Google Hangouts video chats. The video chats made coordination efforts far more effective and efficient than simple text chats. The purpose of this meeting was to coordinate the implementation of controls to address the current threats. The team also reviewed team performance in previous rounds and tried determine what controls could be implemented or adjusted to improve faltering indices. Budgetary conflicts were addressed during this meeting, if required. The communication process is not something that begins when a crisis rears its ugly head rather it is a process that takes place in preparing for a crisis before it happens.
