Growing up my dad would re-watch the Dukes of Hazard and I usually would be on the couch right beside him. It influenced me to grow up as a rebel. The Dukes of Hazard showed me an 8 year old kid that sometimes the culturally wrong thing it the right thing to do. The general Lee and the confederate flag represent that but now it’s seen as racist. In the thirty years that show has been around it was never called out once for being racist. Over the years Dukes of Hazard has inspired me in a number of different ways and taught me very valuable and important lessons of life. People possessing power and holding high positions in bureaucracy are often involved in or at the center of major corrupt schemes and care little for the well-being of people but their own vested interests. Furthermore, these corrupt officials in state machinery would often project themselves as morally upright and honorable members of the society who are genuinely concerned about the welfare of the society. They are quick to lay blame on people like Duke Cousins because of their wild ways and not adhering to the principles of the society. In Dukes of Hazard, this corrupt bureaucracy is well demonstrated through the figure of county commissioner Jefferson Davis “Boss” Hogg who is involved in almost everything in Hazard County and his crooked schemes are always foiled by the Duke Cousins. Hogg is always coming up with new and even more innovative schemes to get the Duke Cousins out of the picture and achieve more success through his corrupt plans and designs. This goes on to show that corrupt bureaucrats under the cover of power and despite being morally upright members of society have the potential of causing great evil and harm to common people. Countless examples of renowned people in the echelons of power can be found who have misused their power in order to exploit the people only for their own vested interests. The acts of these corrupt bureaucrats have resulted in the dismantling of not only the economic structure but has also brought upon a great social evils upon the society. The Dukes of Hazard which can primarily be regarded as quintessentially entertainment show does a very decent job of highlighting these issues in a fun yet very insightful and provocative manner which makes the viewers take notice of these very important issues in our society that demand immediate and utmost
