“Miss Pandora, how do you like your evening gown?” a maid asks me as she assists me in putting on my long linen dress. It is a long sleeved, black and gold evening gown with a white ribbon draped around the waist. The dress has the gold linen fabric as a base with black fabric as a second layer. The torso is covered with a thin layer of black lace starting on the left shoulder and extends to the right side of the waist. The dress below the waist is sprinkled with golden sparkles on the black fabric like stars shining under the dark night sky. “Thank you, Leina. This gown is beautiful.” I reply to her as I spin around in front of the mirror to check the overall of the gown. The gates gradually opens its arms to welcome our arrival. The carriage continues its journey to the grand entrance of a portentous mansion that is as great as a castle itself. The statues that welcome every guest entering through the front door are carved with perfection and enhanced with gold dust like nymphs of the forest. The interior design is extravagant, telling all guests that its owner is enjoying his life as a king. Everything about this mansion is lavish and pouring out the reality of the owner’s wealth. All guests are greeted by the servants and guided to the different waiting rooms and the garden before the start of the prodigal celebration party. I wonder in the first level of the mansion, slowly approaching the back door to the garden that lies beyond. With anticipation and curiosity, I turn the handle and allow the scenery to fulfill my sight. The center of the garden is a small water fountain with detailed work on the characters engraved on the sides. Abench is planted by the side of the garden in between the sea of flowers. A trail is cleared around the water fountain and to the flowers on the outer ring of the garden. The flowers are a mix of different tulips and roses, such sight is fascinating. They were each other’s halves, they were a whole when they met each other. The two girls wanted to create a perfect doll, a doll worthy to be called a perfection. Arodnap was the dollmaker, she was in charge of creating the perfect doll. As for Riek, she was in charge of providing those rare materials that normal dollmaker have no access to. Working toward the same goal they were aiming day after day, night after night. Everything seems so perfect… but it also seems so distorted. The two went into an argument that ultimately just breaks the bond they put their effort into building. It was about the dream that they wanted so badly, they were argue about this extremely rare yet common material to use as the base coat for the doll that Arodnap created. The dollmaker demanded flawless skin and bones from humans. This corrupted Riek’s believe of purity in the doll, she just couldn’t agree with her best friend on this. The fight ended the partnership between the two and their friendship. Riek ran out of Arodnap’s cottage in tears, not knowing that was her last straw to be alive.
