In the Covenant House, The general principle of Fidelity and Responsibility means that the agency will depend on their staff to lead in the proper way of showing others how to work together. The ethical general principle of Fidelity and Responsibility is not met because of the way the staff conducts themselves the general principle of Fidelity and Responsibility is not met because of how the staff member’s job are dealt out.. The Fidelity and Responsibility principle states that to understand their roles in the agency and what the agency expects from them. The management of agencies should seek to control conflicts before the conflicts get blown out of proportions.

An example of how the Covenant House does not follow this general principle is that they hire youth workers as staff to solely take care of the residents and the supervisor then give the youth workers jobs that the resident’s advisor is supposed to do. For example, the youth workers should not look at resident personal information, including their social security numbers. The youth workers do some of the work that the supervisor is supposed to do. For example, the youth workers should not be using a computer program to obtain resident discharge paperwork and obtain that information. The youth workers are not supposed to do this job. The supervisor is supposed to obtain the resident discharge paper work, and then give it to the resident advisor to close out the resident file. The youth workers job is supposed to make sure that the residents are safe and that the residents are doing what the schedule tells them to do. The Covenant House needs to adapt this principle of Fidelity and Responsibility because it is not ethically right to have the youth workers doing the jobs of the resident advisor or of the supervisor. The management has to change the job description of the youth worker. The management needs to figure out what jobs are appropriate for the different positions of the staff
