Slavery was a big thing back then. Nobody ever knew that it was bad until it really actually happened and once they found out about they were scared to death. Today I am going to be talking about slavery and tell you some research I have found out about him working at the cotton plantation. Did you know that in the 1860 there was over 60% of slaves that worked at the cotton plantation? If you think that's not a lot, then you're wrong because in 1860 there was over 4 million slaves and about 60% of them were working at the same place. Have you ever heard of the cotton plantation? Well, if you haven’t today i'm going to talk about the story of a young man who was a slave and worked at the cotton plantation in the 1800s. He started working on a plantation in South Carolina. He thought that the job would be easy, but when he started he realized that he was going to get a lack of sleep. They got a lack of sleep because every morning they would get up at 7am and start work till around 11 that night. There sleeping situation was rough because everybody had to sleep on the ground on the cold wet grass, they only had one blanket for each slave, and they were not very warm to sleep with. In our history book I have found that most of the slaves usually work in a farm or at a plantation. Slaves get punishments for not doing what they are supposed to be doing which they are supposed to be working. Harry Mcmillan has actually had some punishments done to him like whipping, and he said that sometimes they would dig up a hole in the ground and put you down there for months or until some people die.
