The average cost to adopt a child is averaged at $40,000. Many people would like to adopt but the adoption process takes a long amount of time and there are other fees that are not included in the average cost. The price of adoption should not be so much because families that want to adopt may not be able to afford the average costs, also when a family brings a new child into their home, they are financially supporting them as well, with that being said, there are many child in the adoption system that have waited years to be adopted and cannot because there are not enough people that are able to adopt. When a family or individual decides to adopt a child, they are hit with the fact that the costs are outrageous. The cost is around $40,000 …show more content…
If a person or family were able to adopt a child, not only are they taking on the wellbeing of the child, but they are also taking on the financial responsibility of the child. They would have to provide the child with clothing and the necessities that a person requires, but also medically and educationally as well. The new parent or parents would have to get the child medical exams done, pay for schooling, and also provide for them on a daily basis. The average cost of adoption would make the adopter financially unstable. There are approximately 140,000 children in the adoption system and that is not including the children in adoption systems out of the United States. It could take months and even years for a person or family to be able to adopt a child and every day more and more children are put in adoption services. Although children get adopted daily, the ratio to the admitted and released children from the adoption system differ extremely. However, the children that get adopted still have the chance of going back into the adoption system. If the process of adoption was not as extensive as it is now, it would be easier for inadequate people to be able to adopt
If the process is done through a non-profit agency, it costs from ten thousand to twenty-five thousand dollars. Attorney adoption, or independent adoption, usually runs from twenty thousand to thirty thousand dollars. The process is so expensive because the adoption agency must pay highly educated social workers to do home studies. Other expenses that are automatic are the cost of counseling, termination of birthparents’ rights, and post-placement supervision. Other things that could require additional costs are educational resources and materials, depending on the agency, as well as help to run the agency as a typical business. Some non-profit organizations receive grants and loans, but they are normally only for projects to better the services (“Independent Adoption Center”). States and agencies are starting to use a new formula that is not based off the ethnicity of the child, since Caucasian children tend to cost more because of high demand. The new formula figures the cost of adoption based on the family’s income annually, but this will still make adopting a taxing process. For one family the cost of adoption for a white child was thirty-five thousand, eighteen thousand for a full African American child, and twenty-four thousand for a biracial child (NPR
When a couple or individual decides to adopt a child, they know they are going to take on the responsibility of taking care of someone else’s child. Due to the biological parent(s) who can’t take care of that child anymore, because of either drug abuse, alcohol abuse, abuse to the child or if the parent(s) had died and there is no other care for the child. So that’s why this gives other couples who cannot have kids, the opportunity to promise themselves to be a great parent to a child in need. Though there are some bad things about adoption as well. Like adopting a child from another country of another race, because once that child is adopted into an American family, he or she will be cut off from their culture and never know about their history. Everyone should to know about their culture and history.
Many potential adopted parents have experienced heartbreak, anguish and other problems that can be associated with adoption. There is an imbalance in the Nations foster care system and the system needs to be strengthening and the quality of services improved.
There is also the added benefit that embryo adoption is much less expensive than regular adoption, ranging from $6 to $10 (Christian Embry Bank, 2016). This is good news for families that might not have the financial means to go through with a traditional adoption. Traditional adoption is also becoming much more difficult of a process, international adoption is more difficult than ever and it is now more acceptable for people to have babies out of wedlock, so there are fewer babies now available for adoption, making embryo adoption a viable choice for many couples coping with infertility (Embryo adoption, 2015). There are estimated to be over 625 thousand embryos in storage now, so a lot of facilities are also concentrating on urging couples to be careful about the number of embryos they create, urging them to freeze eggs instead (Christian Embryobank, 2016).
Many aspiring foster parent anticipated the increase in their expenses once they added a member in their family but one thing that surprised many is that there is a upfront cost that they will need to pay before they received their adoptee. “You may be shocked to learn that there are few costs to adopting a child. Or you may be surprised to discover that not every adoption costs thousands of dollars.” (financing). Theres is no recruitment agency that will cover that cost not even the government. And I think some people who planned to adopt and once they realized the cost that they need to pay first, they back out and the will keep the children in the foster care and that’s why we have a lot of kids there. The organization that I chose helps the potential foster parents to understand their options to how they can afford to
Poverty is a cause of adoption of children today. Some of the people in the vast population of developing countries are languishing in poverty. The gap between the poor and the rich is widening with time and this has led to increase in poverty levels in various parts of the world. This is where Canadian individuals, unable to have children of their own, or wanting to make a difference in a child’s life become parents and saviors.
Since the child is being adopted, it lowers the rate of abortions since they are offered a second option. That saves the judgement that person would have faced. And after the baby is born it gives them a chance to change their mind. As I stated before, about 20,000 children have to stay in the foster care system until they are 18 years of age. According to ABC news, some of these children can actually end up homeless at some point or in prison. In this case, this motivates the children as they are approaching adulthood, so they are more likely to try to get a job, and in some cases they will take the lower paying jobs that no one wants to work. But then again it can keep the higher paying jobs open for other people. This helps keep the businesses open. If the child does end up being homeless, this creates an unsafe feeling. This unsafe feeling can lead to people not wanting to live in a certain area, making realtors lose some business. With the homeless rate rising, this can cause the homeless shelters to be more packed and cost more money to provide for more people. The homelessness can also lead to the rise of crime rates, knowing the fact that some children can end up in
According to the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting system, in 2011 there were 104, 236 children waiting to be adopted in the United States (p. 4). Adoption is the legal process an individual or family goes through to gain legal custody of a child in foster care. This child’s parents have lost custody of their child because they have been deemed unfit to raise the child, either because of neglect or abuse. After the child is removed from the horrible situation, he or she is taken by child services and placed in a foster home or with a family member. This system is in place to protect children from further abuse, neglect and trauma. Today, children in foster care are in the system for a very short period of time; there is a push to getting them out of a foster home and transition into a safe, loving and permanent environment. The foster care system is run the way it is because of the implementation of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997.
The cost of adoption mainly depends on what kind of child one wants to adopt. Where you are adopting from has a major impact on cost also. The price for a healthy white baby is generally in the $15, 000 price range, but can easily reach up to $25,000(Ademec 68). A black or biracial baby is substantially less in cost. Also a baby with health problems will generally be lower in cost(Ademec 68). When you first apply to an adoption agency, the first fees you will pay are the application fees. These fees range up to several hundred dollars or more. The next fees you will pay are the home study fees. The median price range runs around $1,500 to $2,000 dollar range. The most expensive fee for adoption is the placement fee, which will generally be priced from $10,000 and up(Ademec 69). But if the child is from another country, you will have to visit it. ...
While the idea of adoption sounds so perfect and great, one huge factor makes the adoption choice somewhat difficult. One would never think of putting a “price” on their own child yet adoption is extremely pricey. A couple looking to adopt better be prepared to spend roughly $35,000 (babycenter). Personally, that number shocked me. Who finds it necessary to put such a high cost on the love between parents and a child? What is more important, the fact that a child needs a good home and a family somewhere out there wants to become parents, or spending thousands of dollars to fulfill a need that is supposed to be priceless? The answer here is obvious, and there are multiple reasons as to why the cost of adoption should be lowered immensely.
If you have ever considered adopting a newborn, or a child under the age of three, then you have undoubtedly recognized that the price affiliated with this type of adoption is outrageously expensive. Some adoptions costing in the upper $40,000 range. When there are so many children in foster care already, why are the costs of adoption so extreme? How is the adoption process broken down into these fees? What do adoptive candidates have to go through in order to adopt a baby? Is the foster care system failing the children it currently serves? Why are more birth mothers choosing the unsightly demise of abortion rather than adoption? Do these women who choose abortion know all their options when it comes to their unborn child? Is there enough
Public adoption agencies are run by the state, and are therefore much cheaper or possibly even free. Generally the public adoption agencies focus primarily on special-needs adoptions, as opposed to an infant or international adoptions. They accept applications for older children, children with special needs, or children with siblings. Children in the public adoption system have predominantly been abused, neglected, or abandoned by their birth parents, which indicates the children could have emotional and physical scars requiring extra attention and care from an unfamiliar family. A private adoption agency is licensed by the state, but not paid for by the state, and can become quite pricey for families looking to adopt. According to parents.com, an adoption from a private agency can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000. Private agencies execute adoptions domestically as well as internationally. They can provide a wider span of options since they are not funded by the state, and adoptive parents are already expecting to pay a greater amount. Adopting independently implies that you are in direct contact with the birth mother, and you have an adoption attorney assisting you in the process of adoption. Finding a birth mother in an independent adoption may require sending out your information to pregnancy crisis centers, posting it on the internet, or
The best things in life come free to us. Our parents are one of the most important and fundamental in our life. However, people generally wonder, do adopted children feel the same way we do? Adoption is not easy, it's full of risks, simply because no one is aware of the future, the person adopting a child will never know how the child will react once he's aware he's adopted. Will they grow to love them, hate them, admire them or fear them? All of these unanswerable questions makes any person think twice before having the courage to adopt. Adoption never fails to put down any parents' feelings, whether they were homeless, abandoned, poor or runaway children and also families who don't have the option of being biological parents, the pleasure it gives to all of those people exceeds all of it's expected problems. However; adoption has some positive sides. It's one of life's fair treaties. It gives hope and integrity to the families who weren't fortunate to conceive; moreover, it changes the life of the child forever mostly positively. That's why many people support adoption worldwide.
The benefits of adoption are endless. First, it can promote sharing within a household. Secondly, it provides many benefits for the child being adopted. Finally, it can give the parents the satisfaction of raising a child. Adoption is a great way to enhance a family bond.
...society, more people less room and food are overpopulating us. We are running out of natural resources to be able to sustain life and be able to live comfortably. Even though there are bad sides to adoption, we should at least consider life as the better choice.
