Corruption
Corruption is any act that deviates from accepted moral norms or standards;integrity deprivation. It manifests itself in so many ways, it can be inform of:embezzling public funds, taking or soliciting for bribes,extortion,abuse of power...e.t.c.It is one of the biggest societal ills, it has the potential to erode all the achievements, we fought so hard to accomplish, if not tackled.

The judiciary is one area where corruption is so rampant. A judge may be bribed, so that, a ruling can be swayed in favor of one side, a trial can be sped up or delayed, or a compliant can be dismissed. This goes against the very purpose of the judiciary:ensuring fairness in the legal process. Politicians can also interfere with the appointment of judges,by voting in their cronies,to create loopholes for committing corruption. Court personnel should be accorded adequate remuneration,commensurate with experience and expertise,this will discourage them from taking bribes. Additionally, an independent body,should be charged with the responsibility of overseeing appointments. These actions will reduce incidences of corruption.

Another area where corruption manifests itself, is in politics. Politicians can interrupt with the electoral process, by bribing voters, intimidating voters, or stuffing ballots, in order to influence the results in favor of a preferred candidate instead of the one endorsed by the electorate. Also, civil servants, can embezzle public funds meant for economic development, to fund their political ambitions. Civil servants should be accountable to the people they are meant to serve. This can be done by legislating regulations,that require them to disclose their source of funding, and spells out their responsibilities. To ...

...ing companies do not disclose the identities of their equity holders and subsidiaries,thereby providing an opportunity for corrupt individuals to hide their ill gotten wealth. They also, provide inadequate or no financial information,making it impossible to inspect the revenues generated. Without these financial records,they cannot be held accountable. Mining companies should avail their financial records,to allow monitoring and inspection,and also, disclose shareholders. Companies that do not adhere to this regulation, should not be allowed to operate.

Corruption has far reaching ramifications to the society, it is everyone's responsibility to fight it. It must be tackled at the national and grassroots levels. To do this, the public must be enlightened on the forms and the ways to deal with it. We risk human extinction, if we do not act quickly.
