Corrections in America The American correctional system has its flaws like anything else. Many people argue today that our system does not work and we are not the land of the free because of it. This partly the fault of society but also the blame can be put on our leaders who don’t see the criminal justice system as pressing issue. When in all reality if we cleaned the criminal justice system up it would solve many other issues facing the issues. As we all know if you have conviction record it becomes next to impossible to find employment after the fact. With that being said America still has the highest imprisonment rate in the entire world along with a shockingly high rate of recidivism and lack of programs that will truly help law breakers. …show more content…

As a whole, prisons are overcrowded still this leads to unnecessary risk. Overcrowding can lead to prisoner neglect and health risks for prisoners along with other various issues. It also breaks down the uses of solitary confinement which to my surprise is for more than you would think due to the overcrowding issue. Prisoner neglect is also why the countries recidivism rate is staggering. Prisoners more often than not do not have access to psychologist or doctors and often this leads to death in prison due to the spreading HIV and AIDS do tattoos and heterosexual acts. One researcher by the name of Donald Hutcherson II suggests that, “. . . if prison was a "finishing school" for criminals, illegal earnings after serving time should have increased.” This is possible solution to some of the issues that go on in prison and can help lower the recidivism rate …show more content…

This is prove that warehousing people in prisons does not serve as a deterrent to crime. If most recidivism happens within being a year out of prison or jail they are just sing the system as place to live temporarily and after their say they will be back to their ld ways. Recidivism is huge problem within our correctional system this can be attributed to many factors such as lack of funding as discussed above. The first goal of the correctional system is to correct the wrong doer. If the recidivism right is a high number then the system is clearly broken.
