To express one’s Freedom of religion is written within the First Amendment of the United States Constitution; which states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (Marroquin, n.d.). About 71 percent are members of a local religious faith. Faith-favored organizations are extremely proactive in proceeding for social needs at home and in sending aid abroad (Martinez, 2015). Freedom of Religion is the cornerstone of the American experience, because our religious faith is not merely a matter that we should just tolerate, but it is to be the exercise that we as Americans have the inherent human natural right to do so (Martinez, 2015).
The key to America’s religious liberty success story is its constitutional order. The Framers argued that virtue derived from religion is indispensable to limited government. The Constitution therefore, guaranteed religious free exercise while prohibiting the establishment of a national religion. This Constitutional order produced a constructive relationship between religion and state that balances citizens’ dual allegiances to God and earthly authorities without forcing believers to abandon or moderate their primary loyalty to God (Cline, 2013).
