What is a computer? It is an electronic device that manipulates information or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve and process data, typically in binary form, according to the instruction given to it in a variable program. There are two basic parts of computer, the Hardware which is the physical structure and the Software which is any set of instructions that tells the hardware what to do. The uses of computers now is endless. A person may utilize it for typing documents, sending emails, browse the internet, handling spreadsheets, for games and so much more. There are 4 generation of computers. The First Generation of Computer were massive in size and used vacuum tubes that resembles like an incandescent light bulb and manual switches. Some of the most important first generation includes the Z1 and Z3, the Colossus machines, the Atanasoff- Berry Computer (ABC), ENIAC and UNIVAC. The Second Generation Computers uses transistors, are tiny electronic switches which is more powerful, more reliable and smaller. The Third Generation Computers developed an integrated circuits are chips that contain large number of tiny transistors that are integrated into a semi conducting material called silicon. The Fourth Generation Computers are integration of circuit that made the development of the microprocessor. Types of Computer that we use nowadays varies what kind of life style we have. It is readily available for purchase by the public in most retail outlets. We may find them in different forms, shapes, and sizes. It depends also on how much one would like to spend in a computer. Some of them includes the desktop computers, notebook computers, tablets and smartphones and so much more.
