“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” This famous quote from the reputed investor and one of the world’s richest men, Warren Buffett, perfectly states the underlying philosophy behind my application for a master’s in Computer Science at your university. My motivation to enter the world of Computer Science is rooted in my uncle, who is a software professional. He is a person I took inspiration from and wanted to emulate in every way possible. That is what first drew my interest towards the world of computers and software. While still in school, that interest transformed into a passion since I discovered that I had an aptitude and desire to learn as much as I could about computers. I soon received a laptop from my father and resolved to enhance my skills even further. As a result, I decided to go for an undergraduate degree in Computer Science engineering after completing high school. During my time in college, I came across a number of different subjects and explored different avenues, which helped me realize that my true calling lay in pursuing Computer Science at a higher level. As a result of good scores in 10th and 12th grades and a top-900 ranking out of a 100,000 students, I was able to secure admission to Gitam University, which is widely regarded as one of India’s best universities for its undergraduate course in Computer Science. During the course of my studies there, I was exposed to a wide variety of subjects under the curriculum, including Operating systems, Database management systems (DBMS), Networks and Network security, JAVA Programming, Software engineering and Artificial intelligence. As the undergraduate major in Computer Science combines a solid core of Computer Science courses with the ability to gain substantial depth in other areas via a required minor in a second subject such as Human Computer or Robotics and offers unparalleled flexibility, I am certain that there will be no hindrance between me and my goal. Setting goals and striving hard to accomplish them has always been my strength in professional as well as personal life. I have always been amazed by computers, code –programs and was keen to understand the underlying meaning, gimmick, structure and pattern of how programs actually work. Learning about simple Foxpro programs, excel sheet formulae, C programs at an early age heightened my interest in computer programs. This childhood interest urged me to do a diploma in information technology and later bachelor’s degree in the same area. Having completed six years course in Information Technology, and two years of experience in IT. I stand by the principal “Stay Hungry” and this has helped me in achieving my goals. Standing by this I would like to explore ahead and pursue MS in MIS. I would like emerge to put to use this knowledge to pursue MS program in MIS.
I am applying for the course of Computer Science because I would like to increase my knowledge of this subject. I hope that in the future I will be able to create applications for computers that will help people to save time and money.
A fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology motivated me to take up engineering. Growing up in the late 90’s, I witnessed computers revolutionize India – we had cellphones and personal computers and the internet transforming our lives - and like most other kids, I was fascinated by them. It wasn’t until I took course on QBasic in 8th grade, however, that I really took a liking to computer programming. The idea of computer ‘languages’ seemed almost magical to me. Over the years, that proclivity for programming grew into a passion and led me to take more programming electives in higher grades. I also took the initiative to set up a student-run Computer Club in my high school and host our first annual Computer Symposium. My upbringing in Delhi also made me aware of the gaping inequalities of wealth distribution in our society and as my interest in Computer Science deepened, it only reinforced my belief that lean-technologies can help governments of developing countries in bringing their policies to the altar of execution more efficiently.
My undergraduate studies in the Department of Information Technology at the St.Joseph’s College of Engineering under Anna University, Chennai have been extremely helpful to acquire a strong foundation in computer science. I majored in Computer Science so that I would get the broadest exposure possible in multiple disciplines using which I could more easily leverage my learned skills. Through the many opportunities I have had here, I have found that I have a deep interest in software development and web design and a strong aptitude for the type of problem solving and problem discovery that it involves. Any amount of learning in Computer Science would be incomplete without hands on experience of Programming. In this regard I completed various mini projects like RFID Based Poad Toll Tax – this is based on Embedded C programming language and SPORTS MEET- data used in this project is based on DBMS which has both my own interest and also as a part of some of my courses.
