Medical Assistant vs. Nurse Many people happen to confuse a medical assistant with a Nurse. I would see why people tend to confuse these two, because I mean they are both connected in the medical field. Being a nurse seem to be better than a medical assistant. You’re more independent working rather than a medical assistant; the hard work pay off at the end with that nice juicy check. In the beginning of fall of 2016, I got a job as a medical assistant. It’s long process to get this sort of job, at least with the University of Utah so when I finally went through the orientation, lab training, computer training, and community clinics I got to work and realized there was, even more, training. Every clinic has its personal preferences and rules, so I had to start from scratch with the training I already had. As soon as I got therenoticeI was a given a quick tour of the clinic and given all the rules, passwords and regulations. It was already too much to handle, but I was memorizing as much as I could. The problem is medical assistants don't get paid what they should. They have so many responsibilities but don't get paid like nurses and other higher professions. Medical assistants do just as much as nurses if not more and get paid around half as much as nurses get paid. Every medical assistant knows how much they are going to get paid when going into this field so it is a choice, that they chose. But it would be better if they were to get paid more for everything that they do. Anyways, In my own opinion medical assistants don't get paid what they should for everything that they learn and do in college and in their workfield. The adage of the adage. Although Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are very similar in the education needed, the specialties, and the work environment, I want to become a Physician Assistant. Their schedules are more flexible and you get paid very reasonably. I can pick what kind of work environment I want to work in. I can choose an emergency room that is more stressful and fast paced or a doctor’s office that is calmer and not so stressful.
A paramedic can work indoor and outdoor; they work through anytime type of weather. Most paramedics work 12 or 24 hour shifts which requires them to work overnight, weekends and holidays. Paramedics are faced with very physically strenuous and stressful jobs that can sometime be involved in life or death situations. A paramedic can be very prone to injuries because of all the heavy lifting, bending and kneeling that can cause great damage in the future. Also paramedics are exposed to many diseases in their field that they have to be careful about such as: contagious viruses and diseases, hepatitis B and HIV. A work schedule of a nurse is similar to a paramedic such as most of them work at hospitals they would be working 24 hour shift, working weekends, holidays and overnight. They are also very prone to injury because they always have to move patients which can cause much of back pain and they are very prone to many diseases that they can contract from their patients. One of the differences a paramedic and a nurses work schedules are that paramedic can only work for an ambulance service or a hospital, a nurse on the other hand has more freedom of picking where to work.
