Although the Sesame Street video and the story versions of "The Gift of the Magi" were both different, there were some similarities between them. One difference was the relationships between the characters in both versions. In, the video Bert and Ernie are best friends living together. But, in the story Della and Jim are husband and wife. Another difference is the gifts the characters got and what they traded for it. On the video Bert trades his paperclip collection for a soap dish intended for Ernie's rubber duck. Also, Ernie traded his rubber ducky for a empty cigar box intended for Bert's paperclip collection. However, in the story Della trades her hair for a Fob that was intended for Jim pocket watch, which was nicknamed "The Watch." While,
I am not the type of girl that gets startled easily but, you can’t help but to get chills when you watch the film Candy Man and read the novel The Forbidden. Both perspectives of this scary yet insightful figure is enough to keep you on your toes while following each story. The Candy Man and The Forbidden keeps you intrigued with its turns and twist to the story. I found it hard to follow the story line but, this worked to the writers benefit. The twist and turns forced me to pay attention to things I would have missed if everything was clear. One aspect of both stories that was clear was, the difference between the image of the Candy Man in the Candy Man and The Forbidden.
Life is a very valuable asset, but when lived on someone else’s terms its nothing but a compromise. The seemingly perfect image of Utopia which combines happiness and honesty with purity, very often leads in forming a dystopian environment. The shrewd discrepancy of Utopia is presented in both the novel ‘The Giver’ by Lois Lowry and the film ‘The Truman Show’ directed by Peter Weir. Both stories depict a perfect community, perfect people, perfect life, perfect world, and a perfect lie. These perfect worlds may appear to shield its inhabitants from evil and on the other hand appear to give individuals no rights of their own. By comparing and contrasting the novel ‘The Giver’ and the film ‘The Truman Show’, it can be derived that both the main characters become anti-utopian to expose the seedy underbelly of their Utopian environment which constructs a delusional image of reality, seizes the pleasures in their lives and portrays a loss of freedom.

There are many similarities and differences between A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Some of the similarities between the two is that in the beginning, everybody was happy, except for the Grinch/Scrooge. We know this because the people of Whoville are singing and decorating their christmas trees as well as their houses. We can tell that the Grinch/Scrooge are both staying at their house and talking about how terrible christmas is. We also know that it is the day before christmas in both stories after they figure out the true meaning of christmas, they both love christmas. Another similarity between the two is that The final similarity I found (because I can only fit 15 sentences on here) is that they Scrooge and the
There was a very greedy old man who was haunted by 3 spirits. They helped change his ways by showing him his past, present, and future. They showed how he was sad and alone as a child, greedy in the present, and, in the future, to die alone unmissed. There were many differences and similarities from the drama to the movie called A Christmas Carol in the conflict, climax, and resolution.
Over centuries of children have been enjoying the classic fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers and Charles Perrault. The fanciful plots and the vivid details allow children to be entranced by characters and adventures that can only be found in these stories. One of the most beloved fairy tales, which both the Perrault and the Grimms have their own separate versions of, is Cinderella. Cinderella is able to show how both versions are able to feed off the same plots while personifying the century and social economic situation in which they have lived.
The Lion King, and Cinderella are classic Disney movies that at first have glance are completely different, but actually have a very similar plot. The Lion King is about a lion named Simba who leaves his home, The Pride Lands, at a young age, has numerous adventures, and for much of the movie lives a “no worry” free life. Cinderella on the other hand, is about a girl named Cinderella who is locked up at her home and lives a seemingly boring life until the end of the movie. However, these two movies are much more similar than most realize. For instance, both Simba and Cinderella had their lives seemingly ruined by someone who is supposed to have their best interest in mind. Secondly, both characters spend the high majority of the movie living a different life than the one that they were intended to. Thirdly, both of the primary antagonist in the movies have assistant antagonist who help them against the protagonist, Simba and Cinderella. Also, both movies end with the two characters getting help from some friends and taking back the life they were supposed to live.
The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry and the Gift of the Magi - Sesame Street have many different similarities and differences that can alter the meaning and make it suitable for different audiences.
The story in The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place in a community that is not normal. People cannot see color, it is an offense for somebody to touch others, and the community assigns people jobs and children. This unnamed community shown through Jonas’ eye, the main character in this novel, is a perfect society. There is no war, crime, and hunger. Most readers might take it for granted that the community in The Giver differs from the real society. However, there are several affinities between the society in present day and that in this fiction: estrangement of elderly people, suffering of surrogate mothers, and wanting of euthanasia.
Firstly, the theme of “The Gift of The Magi” is that people are willing to let go of their most prized possessions to please their loved ones. This is shown through Della who is constantly hankering for Jim’s indirect approval in terms of a valuable gift. On page
By many, animated documentary is considerate a new expression, or evolution, of the documentary, even if this genre (if it can be called so) is been around since the beginning of the 20th century. Some of the firsts examples were short animations such as Winsor McCay’s 1918 film The Sinking of the Lusitania or the propagandistic cartoons made during the World War I by John Randolph Bay, one of the pioneers of educational animation, who used it as a teaching tool for the US army training.
The symbolism in "The Gift Of The Magi" is based upon the gifts given by Jim and Della. Both Jim and Della gave up a possesion the forfieted the importance of the gift they would receive from their spouse. The gifts showing the importance of giving everything of themselves. The key note in the story is that both Jim and Della do not focus on what they have lost ,but instead are touched (as the reader is) by the gifts that they have received.
In the story The Gift of the Magi, Della and Jim made sacrifices for each other, because of the love they had for each other. Della made the sacrifice of cutting off her precious hair that she cared so dearly for, to buy her beloved husband a platinum fob chain for his wrist watch. Jim also made a sacrifice. He sold his wrist watch that had been in his family for many years to buy Della
“They invented the art of Christmas presents” (162) the narrator explained in the last paragraph in the story. O. Henry used the story of Magi to help symbols the generosity of the couple. “Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi” (162). Henry was not wrong; the definition to be generous is too “liberal in giving or sharing; unselfish”. In view of the definition, Jim and Della are symbols of being generous. They gave up the only possessions they had of value to make sure the other had something for Christmas. Another symbol O. Henry used was the gifts themselves given by the couple to symbolize their love for each other; Della gave Jim fob for his watch and Jim gave Della the combs for her hair. They sacrificed for love thus the items they gave up and their gifts are symbols of their love to each other. O. Henry used these symbols to assist explaining the theme of the narrative. In order to love in its truest form, there must be
The Gift of the Magi takes place a day before Christmas in the City of New York, a city where most of his fictional stories take place in ("William Sydney Porter Biography"). The story begins with a woman named Della counting the amount of money she managed to save up. It totaled to a dollar and eighty-seven cents. To gather even this amount of money after paying all the countless bills was difficult. Negotiating and bargaining with the local butcher and grocer were all the pennies that helped make up this value. She then burst into tears, falling on the couch. Even after her efforts of saving and collecting money, a dollar and eighty-seven cents was not enough to buy something worthy of her husband Jim. She looked into the mirror and saw her hair. Her hair was long and luscious; to her it was her most prized possession. In order to afford a gift for Jim, she cut off her valuable asset and sold it to the hair shop. The total amount of
