Three things that bother me are Pokemon, Short hair on me, and bad books. The first thing that bothers me is Pokemon. First of all, People make such a big deal about it. It is infuriating, all I hear is Pokemon this and Pokemon that. Second of all, people say Gotta Catch em’ All. It is obnoxious when your surrounded by middle schoolers saying, “Gotta Catch Em’ All. Third of all, what’s the point of it, and why do people make such a big deal about it. I don’t understand why people make such a big deal about cartoons fighting. Those are some reasons as to why I think Pokemon is so maddening. The second thing that bothers me is Short hair, but only on me, and maybe my sister. Firstly, you can’t do anything with it. It goes, “Make them laugh, make them cry, make them wait.” By following these needs, an author can spark interest in his or her work. In the novels The Catcher in the Rye and Lord of the Rings, the novelists utilize the latter requirement, “Make them wait.” This essay will show how the authors use that specific demand in their novels.
There is a consensus that hair types are another way that colorism–the preference for lighter skin‒permeates the community. Women with a 3b/3c hair texture have a loose, ringlet, or spiral curl pattern and are often praised and more widely accepted in comparison to women who have a 4b/4c texture with a coarser, kinky, or zig-zag curl pattern. This notion highlights how Eurocentric standards of beauty can still influence pro-black spaces like the natural hair community, but it also shows how there is a pressure within the black community to adapt and conform to whatever style or aesthetic is deemed as “acceptable” at the time. This is where the “good hair” controversy comes into play. Whitney Bellinger studied a group of young African-American women to talk about their sentiments towards their hair in her piece WHY AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN TRY TO OBTAIN GOOD HAIR. When she asked the group of women to describe good hair, terms like “long”, “silky”, “fine”, and “healthy” were commonly used (Bellinger 68). While these terms are not exclusive to one hair type or texture, it doesn’t specifically describe a kinky or curly hair type and in turn alludes to a favorability towards non-black textures. Also in the interview, the young women discuss how their mother 's decisions on hair styles growing up impacted their current hair preferences (Bellinger 69). There was a direct relationship between the women who had relaxers growing up and who are still relaxed, as well as the women who were natural growing up and are currently natural (Bellinger 70). On the other hand, there was a smaller group of women who had switched their affiliations on the matter. It is interesting to note that there seem to be feelings of guilt evident with women who went from being natural to being relaxed. I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.

It seems like every year Hollywood does a motion picture interpretation of a novel and although the movie may become a box office hit, the novel will always be much more detailed and in depth. Movie producers and directors try to fit an entire book filled with the tiniest of details into approximately an hour and thirty minutes of entertainment, therefore are forced to cut out many important details. For instance, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” a children’s literature novel written by J.K. Rowling was transferred to the big screen in 2001. Though the movie stayed “…surprisingly faithful to the novel,” according to Roger Ebert, it still lacked some major details that contributed to building the magical world of “Harry Potter.”
Lee revealed that she once had a manager tell her that he loved everything about her and was considering hiring her, but her hair would be an issue. The manager, who worked for a Sacramento news station told her that her hair was “too aggressive” for his viewers (Starr 2014). Statements such as the one Lee received about her hair being too aggressive are the primary reason why some Black women feel the need to straighten and alter their hair.
Tablets are becoming more and more popular and they are replacing books in schools, and should schools be doing this? Tablets are great and all but they cause so much of a distraction and they come with problems in the near future, textbooks are far more superior and get their point across to the reader, while textbooks have been around for centuries. Basically the people want to get rid of textbooks and embrace the opportunity of tablets for the replacement of textbooks. Tablets are said to hold more information than a outdated textbooks and can be constantly updated at the users will or even automatically. On the other hand textbooks should be kept because of their longevity of being in the teaching system. Also textbooks do not come with all the problems that arise with the tablets and the excuses of the students not doing their homework. Textbooks have been around from the beginning of the books. This cartoon usually starts out very sweet and innocent and usually consists of light hearted jokes or moments to make the viewer feel happy while watching it. As it progresses, the cartoon will either take a quick turn or a slow turn into the most heartbreaking moment that not only tugs at a person’s heart but pulls and smashes it down on the ground, crushing the heart under its feet. A fantastic example to mention is “Avatar: the Last Airbender”. Even though this show aimed for pre-teens, it still did not let up on the most heart wrenching moments known to all fans everywhere. From the main character, Aang the avatar, finding out he is the last of his kind after being frozen for one hundred years to the villain’s son, Zuko, fighting with his internal struggle to betray his father and fight for good or to destroy the avatar and have his father take over the entire world, this show had one major blow right after the other when it decided it was time to break the fans hearts and minds into little pieces. This show had very light hearted moments and funny episodes to include in between blows, but when it delivered those bad moments either about death, betrayal, or destruction, it ran over viewers like a train at full
Most modern fairytales are expected to have happy endings and be appropriate for children, nonetheless, in past centuries most were gruesome. Consequently, fairytales have been modified throughout time. The stories “Beauty and the Beast” by Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont and “The Summer and Winter Garden” by Jacob and Wilherm Grimm share similarities and differences. The two stories are distinct because of the peculiar year they have been written in. LePrince de Beaumont’s story is written in London of 1783 and Grimm’s in Germany of 1812. At the time, wealthy people in London, were educated and had nannies who would read to their children; whereas, in Germany, the Grimm brothers created their own interpretation into a short story. Because many high class parents in 18th century London would not be able to spend time with their children, nannies would read “Beauty and the Beast” to them since they were intended for children and considered appropriate. In “The Summer and Winter Garden,” the Grimm’s’ story was mostly based to entertain misbehaved children and teach them the valuable lesson that everyone should be treated with kindness. The Grimm brothers’ goal in rewriting this short story is to better children’s behavior which worked quite well. Since these stories have been re-written for children, it would be safe to say the reason why parents expose the two stories to their children is because they both portray the same moral: good things happen to good people. The two interpretations of “Beauty and the Beast,” although written in separate countries, share important similarities and differences even though the authors have different interpretations and came from different cultures.
"Dragon Ball Z" is an example of a cartoon that has a negative affect on children because of the use of violence. This particular episode was aired on Thursday, October 18, 2001 on a public broadcast station in High Point, NC. The show introduced a group of terrifying monsters that were considered to be the bad guys.
