While the film Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock replicates the eating habits of what he believes are “average” americans, Fat Head by Tom Naughton on the other hand dives in deeper into the physiology behind the ingestion of food and replicates a more believable eating habit of an average American. Both films try to teach people about nutrition and change issues about either the government or companies such as McDonald’s, however one film proves to be more accurate and honest out of the both films. Fat Head not only disproves Morgan Spurlock’s film, but also shows how the government has been lying to all the American consumers the whole time by showing what professionals know about nutrition and showing facts to support his claims. In Super Size Me Morgan Spurlock says he is going to eat at McDonald’s 3 meals everyday for 30 days, he’s going to eat every meal on the menu at least once, and he’s going to only super size when he’s asked. What Morgan tries to prove is that fast food is unhealthy and super sizing is even unhealthier, however Tom Naughton proves fast food isn’t actually unhealthy and ever since super sizing ended in 2004 diabetes and obesity haven’t decreased. In Fat Head Tom ate at many different fast food restaurants not just McDonald’s, ate a reasonable amount of food that was under about 2000 calories, and took out carbohydrates from his meals unlike Morgan. In any diet working out should be an addition to staying healthy. Yes, you can also possibly lose weight by eating a lower calorie count than your body regularly so your body can instead use stored fat, however it’s not that simple. Tom Naughton shows that “every time you eat you store some fat. In between meals fat comes out of your fat cells to provide the fuel for your muscles and organs. If you’re naturally thin then that means you have efficient fat cells which means fat cells go in quickly and comes out easily. Your body doesn’t need much fat because the little bit of fat you do have is a reliable source of fuel.” but on the other hand “ If you’re predisposed to be fat it’s because you have greedy fat cells. When you eat you tend to store calories as fat instead of burning them and when your other tissues need those calories the fat comes out slowly if it comes out at all. And you do what your body is telling you to do. You eat more.” Which means you’re not getting fat because you’re eating more. You’re eating more because you’re getting fat.
