There was always been a tension between the south and north. The 911 incident is name to emphasize the civil war that happened. A lot of lives lost, the one feared the other and the balance can be maintained. The division was clear between on groups and so is the free and the slaves. As the government tried to calm both spectrum by giving them comprimise, a lot of issue to arose - economical, political and slavery. The main difference was due to slavery and their opinions about it what made it more worse was that the North was strongly against slavery and the South firmly believed in it, as both sides had extreme ideologies which were completely opposite, it caused hostility. If the North felt that slavery is bad but did not interfere with the South the tension would not have been so bad.
Throughout the 1800’s many compromises were created with the intent of pulling two nations together to from a more perfect government. The North and the South have different views that created many conflicts between the two parties. Congress continued to address controversial matters with compromises that only benefitted one side or the other and not both. These compromises affected the North and the South; however they started to drastically worsen because both sides had economic, social, and political differences.
From colonial times there were differences in geography that gave rise to variations in culture and economy in the United States. Due to the differing characteristics, a sectional economy molded the United States into two distinct regions: the north and the south. The north, a commercial society, which supported industry and commerce while the south, an agrarian civilization, flourished in the production of raw materials with use of slaves. The two economies were both self-supporting and capable to create a stronger, more productive nation. The regional differences sought to build America, in turn threatened to destroy it. Many Historians believe that the Civil War was constructed over the issue of slavery. However, the concerns of states' rights versus federal rights and the unfair legislation representation were the principal causes of the Civil War.
In the early American colonies, the south and the north developed into two distinctly different colonies. Although their origins were both from Europe, their customs and living habits became so different that it would play a major role in America’s history. There are many reasons why these differences occurred but only a few major reasons stand out. Religion, greed and the composition of the colonies are some of the major reasons why the north and south grew to be so different in the late 1600’s. Different religions in specific colonies varied, but the people from the New England region were generally more devoted to their religious beliefs, whereas people from the south felt religion wasn’t as important. Children from the north are taught from The Bible as soon as possible and this instills high moral values into the people. The people of the North and South each believed fiercely in their cause, one for a free people the other for life servitude. Neither group, based on the documents presented were willing to budge regarding their beliefs. The time before the Civil War is known for the vast expansion of the United States. Slavery affected many aspects of the unity and discord between the Northern and Southern states, such as in political, economic, and social arguments. In addition, some cultural factors caused union and divergence between different groups of religious people. Westward expansion affected the United State politically, economically, socially, and culturally in ways that at times unified them, but also, in some cases separated them.
In the south, cotton was becoming a huge success for the southern farmer. Cotton, being a very laborious crop, required the ownership of many slaves per plantation. Unlike the immigrants of the north, slaves were property. Slaves were also much less of a profit. When a slave became ill he could not simply be replaced, he needed to be cared for, after all, this was the plantation owners property. On the other hand in the north if a worker became to ill to work, there were several immigrants waiting for the job.
The Southern and Northern states varied on many issues, which eventually led them to the Civil War. There were deep economic, social, and political differences between the North and the South. These differences stemmed from the interpretation of the United States Constitution on both sides. In the end, all of these disagreements about the rights of states led to the Civil War. There were reasons other than slavery for the South?s secession. The manifestations of division in America were many: utopian communities, conflicts over public space, backlash against immigrants, urban riots, black protest, and Indian resistance (Norton 234). America was a divided land in need reform with the South in the most need. The South relied heavily on agriculture, as opposed to the North, which was highly populated and an industrialized society. The South grew cotton, which was its main cash crop and many Southerners knew that heavy reliance on slave labor would hurt the South eventually, but their warnings were not heeded. The South was based on a totalitarian system.
Formed at the eve of the Civil War, the United States (USA) and the Confederate States (CSA) were created for multiple reasons. The main reason of the formation includes that of political issues and slavery issues. Other ideas include the military, economics, etc. The USA was led by President Abraham Lincoln and the CSA was led under President Jefferson Davis. The CSA included the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Ever since the formation of the colonies, differences stood in the way of a fundamental relationship between the north and the south. Despite these differences, they were not the cause of the problems. In the 1820’s, the growth between territories and regions increased. In the years leading up to the Civil War, there was great conflict throughout the United States. The North and South had come to a crossroads at which there was no turning back. The Secession Crisis is what ultimately led to the Civil War. The North and the South disagreed on slavery and what states would be free states. The South despised Lincoln's election and rose up in revolt by forming the Confederate States of America.
Over the course of American History the differences in the economies of the North and the South caused tension to arise. The North’s economy depended on manufacturing goods and trade. The South’s economy depended on farming and slavery. As the Union’s territory grew tensions arose over what states would have slavery and what states would be “free.” Many people in the North didn't agree with the idea of slavery and did things like held conference or write books to spread their opinion. Many acts and laws will try to resolve the conflict between the North and the South but the only thing that will resolve it will be a war.
