The Cable Guy VS John Rambo: Two Very Different Psychological Disorders with One Common Result
Of the seven billion inhabitants of this planet, it comes to no surprise that a handful will eventually fall ill. In most cases, the illness is a physical one and can be cured, but there is a large portion of the human population that suffers from another form of illness; one that at times is brushed off and not seen as serious. Of all illnesses, one category is the more easily observed one and is not necessarily physical, but rather psychological. Psychological disorders vary by extremeness and are observed on a spectrum. People with mental illness are usually thought to be psychotic, crazy, pathetic or even dishonest in the way such that they can use their illness to provoke sympathy and get away with certain things the rest of us can’t (Byrne, 2000, p. 2). These negative stereotypes further enhance the idea that people with mental illnesses are not like us and should be avoided. While it is true some of the more extreme mental illnesses can cause harm to others, most of these disorders are not dangerous to the rest of us, and the people that suffer from them are regular …show more content…

Steven asked his girlfriend to marry him, and she kicked him out of their house. With a new apartment all to himself he is given advice to bribe the cable guy to get free movie channels. This works, but it turns out Chip wants more than just the money; he wants to be friends with Steven. As the story progresses it becomes evident that Chip wants things his way or no way at all, which results into quite a few scandalous and incriminating events to unfold. It is obvious Chip has some kind of personality disorder and he is slightly dependent on Steven for company. At the end, Chip attempts to commit suicide, but survives and is being flown to the hospital when the medic tells him to “stay with me buddy”.
