Compare and Contrast the settlement of the Chesapeake and the settlement of New England. English Protestants first arrived at a place called Plymouth, and then a decade later a much larger group began to arrive just north of Plymouth. These new peoples came in family groups, planning to create communities like the ones they left behind, but instead the wanted to base them off of protestant principles. After Columbus voyaged to west Indies, the Spanish soon established sugar plantations. They first used the natives to work their plantations, but they were soon greatly affected by diseases. When most of the Natives died, they then imported African slave labor remaking the population of the Caribbean. Traditions of government such as regulating land and water use was brought from Spain. It failed, because it did not give Congress and the national government enough power. It also didn 't allow congress to tax, so the government started printing money, which cause i severe case of inflation. The list goes on, showing the the AOC was ineffective, and that 's why the US soon realized that the articles were not working, and then the constitutional convention was held, where the articles were abandoned. In the Articles of Confederation, Congress could request states to pay taxes, but in the constitution, Congress can impose taxes on individuals. Also, in the AOC there was nothing to regulate interstate trade, but in the Constitution, there was regulation of trade. They were obviously very different, which may have been why the AOC failed and the Constitution
