Epic heroes are described as a brave and noble character in a story. Being a hero or villain is not easy, it takes many struggles along the way but in the end, they are admired for their noble births, supernatural abilities, quests, and valorous deeds. In many ways Ursula is a villain and Beowulf are their own epic hero through comparing and contrasting these characters.
Ursula was a fictional character in the Walt Disney Pictures film, “The Little Mermaid”. A villain sea octopus who tricks a mermaid princess, named Ariel, into trading her voice for a pair of human legs. He offered help with no doubt to the land of Danes, “[Beowulf] heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out.” (“Beowulf” lines 112-113). As fifty years later passed, Beowulf encounters a dragon who begins terrorizing the Geats who he then wants to defeat as an old man. “I’ve never known fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old, now, But I will fight again, seek fame still If the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me.” (“Beowulf” lines 606-611). Ursula’s quest was to take over Atlantica from Ariel’s father to become ruler. She believed Ariel would be the “Key to Triton’s undoing”. By doing that she had to manipulate Ariel to give Ursula her voice so Ariel can get a chance at being human and meeting the love of her life. She did accomplish her quest when Triton had found out what was going on and turned over his title of the ruler and gave it to Ursula. Ursula was then defeated by Ariel’s love, Prince Eric, by plunging his ship’s splintered bow through her abdomen. She was then electrocuted by her own lightning once it backfired until she dropped dead and sunk into the
