I will help encourage others, improve my community, and build character by completing many community service activities and working on-campus jobs. Engaging in specific activities like Care Walk, tutoring, and philanthropy work within a sorority will help me meet the Shawn Carter Foundation’s requirements. Care Walk is a charity event that raises awareness for breast cancer sponsored by the Panhellenic Council at the University of Mississippi that is open to all students, and upperclassmen are able to help organize the event. Through tutoring, I hope to encourage and motivate other students, support them in their studies, and help them further develop their academic skills. Through philanthropy work, I hope to raise awareness for issues and become surrounded by ambitious, like-minded people. …show more content…

Others may include working at a church fundraiser, organizing an activity, or providing ACT tutoring. I also hope to remain involved with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital while I am in college. I was a patient at this hospital, and it is significant to me because not only did it save my life, the doctors and nurses also saved my mother’s when she was younger. Volunteering at St. Jude’s will be easier because of the proximity of my chosen school to Memphis, and I hope to continue to participate in organizing 5k’s and marathons and in spending time with patients, encouraging them and bringing peace to their families.
